What are some events in American history that ended up in failure. We have our success like winning the American Revolution. Any events that weren't successful in our history?

The US coup in Iran in the 1960s (I think) which took away the democratically elected leader and instated the religious government they have today in order to prevent nationalization of oil. Yeah, we did that.

A country is successful in a war when it achieves what it set out to do. And the aim of the Iraq War wasn't to kill as many Iraqis as possible. This is not Inglorious Basterds.
