I haven't swam in ages, but we have a swim test tomorrow. everything is pretty easy except the water treading thing 5 minutes, no touching the bottom or wall obviously how can I do this without getting tired? i'm mildly athletic.

Doggie paddle helps.

long strokes. Don't try to kick your feet or flail your arms too much. Just pump. (breast stroke helps)

Float on your back. Calm yourself. Make yourself feel relaxed.

Step 1 Remember to stay relaxed and keep your lungs full of air so you will float better. Inhale deeply and hold your breath. Then exhale when you need to before taking another long, deep breath. Step 2 Lift one foot from the bottom up toward your chest. Simultaneously sweep both arms outward and slightly downward in a breaststroke-like motion. Have your palms facing out. Step 3 Raise your other foot while you bring the raised foot back down toward the bottom. Continue alternating your legs up and down almost like you're running under water. Your legs need to keep doing this while treading water. Step 4 Sweep your arms back inward and downward so they are both extended in front of you. Have your palms facing inward while doing this. Step 5 Continue your sweep of arms and running-under-water-like kick. Your legs and arms don't need to be coordinated. Do what is comfortable and what keeps you above water. Got that from a website.

just keep moving ur legs and dont eat any fatty foods in the morning for breakfast
KazeKishi 08/27/09 + PM | QUOTE | PERMALINK | REPORT
Just kick your feet enough to keep your head above the water, you should be buoyant enough to do it with ease. Heck you could even just lie on your back and float without having to do anything.

oh I forgot to mention you have to be vertical and the bottom is 12 feet so you can't do it without being noticed thanks for the help guys

Pookiemookie : Its not that hard secretly touching the bottom. o.o Most treading water tests are in the deep end, not in the 5-foot deep lane. :I
