So, I reset five points of my dex today, and observed something quite interesting; Every time I lowered Dex and increased Str, I was GAINING minimum damage. It seems as though the benefits of Beholder's mastery extends even further, for us.. this just may challenge some of my thoughts regarding dexless builds. I still think they're foolish for the general populace, of course, but for those that have the mesos to equip one properly...

STR is a greater contributing stat versus DEX for both our maximum AND minimum damage formulas. That has never changed. Though a higher skill mastery slightly pushes in favour of STR. One of the things that always irked me is people spouting claims that higher DEX gave you higher minimum damage. Points in DEX that would be considered surplus (in regards to accuracy that is) are much better spent in STR.

it's not that you get more to your min, its str makes you more "unstable" because you generally have a slightly wider range but since you're hitting higher numbers on both ends it generally makes that argument pretty moot V_V

Yeah.. this is one of those things that I"d just taken at face value. I suppose the stability is true enough, as only raising min does make your damage more stable.. but in the end, it's interesting to find that it's something of a misunderstanding among many people, myself included, that dex provides a higher min.

Yeah, it's a bit embarassing. I consider myself a repository of information regarding Dark Knights, and for the longest time, I never really thought about the difference between "instability" and "minimum damage". I think I've always known, at least in a minor way, I just never really brought it forward and consciously thought about it.

But you probably had it lurking in a corner of your subconsciousness f3 I had no idea about it lol.

Mm. It's something that had bugged at me from time to time... that "Just how much does str add?" sort of question I never bothered to answer. Neat to find it out. :D And now.. they give us the Mu Lung Dojo? Sounds like a busy night gaining points there for me, if they finally finish this patch. I'll be resetting another 5 dex as soon as I get the +5 belt!

your max attack range is ((str times 5)+(dex))times(total weapon attk (gloves, shoes, necklace)/100) lol xD

No it's not. It's [(Str*5 + dex)/100] * attack. You misplaced your /100. Also, so what?

yeah, that doesn't say anything about your min haha (although i think min only has a .9 and mastery multiplier, in which case it makes sense that str adds more to your min too....i guess ~_~)

I'm fairly certain that I could boil it down to a ratio, or at least a recognizable comparison.. but I really don't see the point.

Do you buy resets even when there's no sale? I reset from 80-60 when there was no sale and it felt like a TOTAL waste.

Yes, I do. Mostly because the job I work gives me tips, which is my "do whatever" money; I spend that on NX, and if I didn't, I'd spend it mostly on junk food or other pointless things. Anyhow, since it's been on my mind today, here's a little math. Calculating the effect of str and dex on your min damage; In each, I'll treat the unimportant stat as "0", and the important one as "1", to show how much each point of the individual stat is worth per point of weapon attack. Min damage formula for spears/polearms : (STR * 0.9 * 3.0 * Skill Mastery + DEX) / 100 * Weapon Attack Dex effect on min damage : Dex/100 * weapon attack = 0.01 * weapon attack. Str effect on min damage (unfavored animation) : (1*0.9*3*0.8)/100 * weapon attack = 0.0216 * weapon attack Str effect on min damage (favored animation) : (1*0.9*5*0.8)/100 * weapon attack = 0.036 * weapon attack Just for fun, the min damage with unfavored attack, with 60% mastery : (1*0.9*3*0.6)/100 * weapon attack = 0.0162 * weapon attack So even in second job, once we max out Mastery, strength is still worth 62% more to our poor-animation min damage than dex is. How... interesting.
