| Step 1: Via Start, use the "Run" command and type in "C:WINDOWS system32 drivers etc hosts" (photobucket) When prompted to open it with another application, choose notepad. 64-bit Vista users must use TextPad or another text editor. Step 2: Your hosts file should look similar to this. (photobucket) Add the line highlighted in red. (photobucket) Any fake anti-virus 'scanners' that aggressively redirect users will be noted below: Note: Replace all asterisks with periods. • 209*85*19*20 check-for-malwarev3.com • 209*85*19*20 professionalmalwarescanv7.com • 209*85*19*20 Antivirus-scannerv15.com • 209*85*19*20 getyourpcsecurev3.com Step 3: Save and close. Now simply wait for the ad to appear, and it will redirect you to BasilMarket's homepage. A special thanks to Mr. Basil for working to have this ad removed entirely from BasilMarket, and to MindStormer for that breathtaking background of mine. If you'd like to block other websites, simply add their domain name (e.g. google.ca) after the IP address of another server. For instance, 209*85*19*20 is BasilMarket's IP, while 127*0*0*1 and 255*255*255*0 are dead ends. To retrieve your own IP address for a website, again choose "Run," and type in "cmd." Then, in that application type in "ping -a <target>" (e.g. "ping -a basilmarket.com") It should return something like "Pinging basilmarket.com [209*85*19*20] with 32 bytes of data:..." |

| You may also want to share this with your friends and family; the browser hijacker that's been running rampant around websites registered for Google Ads effects all that have yet to remove the ad. |

| So far all I've gotten was annoying redirects. If I do eventually get the fake antivirus ad, I'll be sure to do this. Thanks. EDIT: I have a Mindstormer background too. :D |

| To anyone who doesn't know yet, you can get a website's IP Address by Run > CMD > [Type in] tracert [website name] > Copy and paste the last IP Address [> If it doesn't appear, get the one that appears beside the command] |

| This is why MrB should go with something other than google ads... Look at this. I don't know the nuts and bolts of internet h0sting and advertising, but this seems like a great idea. |

It should be brought to his attention, but it's safe to assume that Google has a far bit of cash to throw around, in contrast to this Project Wonderful. |

Pardon me if this is a newby question, but what does Google's money have to do with it? It's the ad publishers and people who have those ads on their website who deal with the money on PW. Google only inserts themselves into the equation by publishing "relevant" ads. MrB would have control over what kinds of ads he would want to host on basilmarket, as opposed to having google pick them for him using some sort of keyword search on the page. |

| DanAikido : Does ad block plus make me safe I use NoScript and I noticed that the ads still seem to show up. This is a recent thing though, so I'm guessing that mrb altered the scripts so that the ads are contained in the basilmarket script as opposed to being a separate script, if that makes sense. Edit: Never mind, they're back to being blocked. |
