Looks + Sexuality = Fame?

Well, of course, the artists that have their well deserved fame are talented. But I always wondered, if someone looked horribly ugly, or is gay/bi, would that affect their fame and fans? Now, don't use the Jonas Brothers, or.. some other Disney star as an example, but more like, a pretty well known artist, who are decently good, and their songs get played on the radio occasionally. If suddenly they revealed they/one of their band members were gay/bi, would that affect their fans? Or if he/she was better looking/ugly looking, would that affect anything? Now of course, people who actually like them for a reason, because of their talent, should have no problem with this. But nowadays, (most) teens seem to listen to any artists that are popular/catchy/whatever other reason other than talent.

Sometimes it is the opposite. People link fame and money with attractiveness. I mean, girls love Mick Jagger . But if you ask me, he's one weird looking dude.

I'd use Katy Perry and her "bisexuality" as an example. She hit it big with I Kissed a Girl, and probably not entirely due to her musical talent.

There was a singer on American Idol some years ago, whose name I can never remember, who went on to release an album. After 'coming out,' I believe he was sued -- and the plaintiff lost, of course -- because the plaintiff bought an album without knowing the singer was homosexual. Keep in mind, though, that I haven't any credible source. For all I know, I could've hallucinated the entire thing.
