I probably no the answer to this but I need it confirmed anyway. You use a digital cameria and take photos. Eventually the batteries die, so you can recharge them (if possible) and put them back in. When the camera prompts you for a "format" and you click on, all your photos are lost. My dad has done this with some precious photos of my mothers family. My question is, is their ANYWAY possible, to get back those photos that have been formatted, like, any way at all that it can be reversed? I'm guessing for the obvious no, but I still had a bleak hope.

Usually when you just delete things the files only disappear when you re write over that particular space. Not sure about formatting. I think its permanent :S

There is a small chance that you can retrieve deleted files.. Try http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Back-Up-and-Recovery/Restoration.shtml I used to use it few times, it may not help but its better than nothing, isnt it?

Maybe if you synced your camera or something like that to you computer, it might have a backup.

All the info related to COMPUTER file "undeleting" will NOT in all likelihood have anything at all to do with the flash RAM used in a digital camera. Other than the thought that it's possible the pictures might have been downloaded onto a computer somewhere before they were deleted and thus are safely stored away on the computer, the only other thing I can think of is to contact the camera manufacturer and ask them if there's anything they can do to restore the photos. This must come up all the time, and while it's most likely they'll just blow it off with a "NO" answer, they might be able to recover something if they've done it before. Go to the camera manufacturer's web site and find the "Contact US" option under their "Support" section. If you've been very, very good (or your Dad has possibly), they might be able to help. EDIT- one other thing just occurred to me- you might try asking on digital camera forums to see if anyone else has come up with a way to restore pictures that have been deleted. Again, it must come up all the time and who knows.. someone might have found a way. Check to see if there are any forums that specialize in whatever brand the camera is. Digital camera forums are a whole lot more likely to know something about it than here any day...
