Guns as Knucklers?

I was using my lvl 30 Pirate with 48 Dex and something Str and equipped Agents shoes and had 50 dex. I equipped a Golden Hook, and un-equipped the shoes and my Gun turned into a knuckler. I looked at equipment and it had the golden hook in weapon with a red block over it. And I used it in combat and it dealt more damage than my regular knuckler, and it looked like I was using the Transparent Claw. Is this possible with other weapons like swords or staffs?

You didn't have enough dex to wear the gun -> gun came off -> you were attacking with bare hands. Any pirate can attack without a weapon, or at least brawlers can.

Ah, didn't know that Brawlers could attack without a weapon. It does seem strange that my bare fists did more than my weapon.
