| Warning: This might be a big text Well I've been experiencing lag at places I don't think I should be lagging at and my computer was normal in the past few days. My C: Drive 2 days ago had 7.4GB out of 33.3GB left and from that day to now, I didn't download anything and it dropped to 4.93GB ._. The only MAIN thing I know is my C: Drive is Maplestory and I don't think that takes up 29.3GB space. So I look around and I see a WHOLE BUNCH like really.. ALOT ALOT of folders with random stuffs I don't even know what is it or how it got there. My Computer > ACER C: <---- That page already has a few things such as Setup, TB, RHDSetup and other stuffs. The folders I have in my C: Drive is: - Acer - Book - DRV - HiTRUSTDrive - Intel - NGM - Nexon - Perflogs - Program Files - Users - Windows The rest are those randoms and in most of the folders I just named has way more of those random stuff. My screen even froze once while doing this thread.. I never lagged AS MUCH in CH1 FM but in the pass few days, I couldn't even go into a FM Room in CH1 FM.. I even lagged when my friend used Genesis! F5 Can someone tell me how I can fix this or delete anything to make me not lag or not lag as much before I go and add more RAM (Which won't be anytime soon). ALL Help is appreciated. <3 |

| Same with mine. Something just gobbles up all my space although I don't lag. I just want to know whats taking up the space. 245GB out of 400GB. All I have is Microsoft Office, Maple and Nero and these stuff which came with my Laptop. Before that when I installed just the three programs my laptop had around 280GB free. I don't download anything though. :x Very confuzzling. |

| Saving Space Download and install Ccleaner, http://www.ccleaner.com/download it will save LOADS of space. Since it deletes stuff in temperary folders (stuff like when you copy/paste text or images, downloading to temperary folder) This is probably a good 4-5 gigs for most users. Remove any junk folders in my docs, or other places. Dowload WinRar and start to compress some music, pictures or other docs that are at large quantities. Reducing Lag -go to start >> run>> type in "msconfig" and go to "startup" there will be a list of programs that start up when your computer boots, like MSN, Steam, Yahoo messenger etc. You want to remove as much as possible from the start up, but!.. do no remove anything such as your sound, video, mouse drivers etc. (your hardware) Xp Bandwidth Tweak A nice little tweak for XP. Microsoft reserve 20% of your available bandwidth for their own purposes (suspect for updates and interrogating your machine etc..) Here's how to get it back: Click Start-->Run-->type "gpedit.msc" without the " This opens the group policy editor. Then go to: Local Computer Policy-->Computer Configuration-->Administrative Templates-->Network-->QOS Packet Scheduler-->Limit Reservable Bandwidth Double click on Limit Reservable bandwidth. It will say it is not configured, but the truth is under the 'Explain' tab : "By default, the Packet Scheduler limits the system to 20 percent of the bandwidth of a connection, but you can use this setting to override the default." So the trick is to ENABLE reservable bandwidth, then set it to ZERO. This will allow the system to reserve nothing, rather than the default 20%. Hope I helped, -Joon |

Hope I helped, -Joon" For the reducing lag part, removing start up programs may reduce it, or it may not, it depends on what is actually in his start up. Whats more is, its actually safe to remove everything there, as the programs for his "hardware" are for increased functionality and settings that he can change. Also note, than anything that is compressed using winrar or any other type of archiving program can not be used until it is extracted. What does that mean? You cant use it unless its taking up its normal amount of space. As for the QoS Reservable bandwidth part, that really wont do much. Your system has access to 100% of its bandwidth. The only time that is used is when, as you said, something takes a priority, which will be limited to 20% anyway. Be it 20% or 0%, it wont make a difference. |

The retail price for my laptop was $1986.61 but as any asian parent would do, they bargained it down to $1490.58 [Btw] I live in Australia so I converted the prices. The prices are approximate. Also, the prices I noted are for desktop drives at that capacity, which are half the price of laptop drives as well as about twice as old. Current 500GB laptop hard drives are around $100 |
