Greetings all who wish to read this reasonably sized post. Before I start I do wish to apologise for any spelling mistakes that you may find in the following. I am quite tired and spelling was never my strong point (yet I like to write, go figure). This post may also only relate to those who have played maple from the beginning or for at least a couple of years or so, even though anyone who has only been playing for a couple of hours should realise exactly what I mean. I myself have been playing this game since beta testing. Now without further delay I shall get to the point of this post. In the beginning Maple Story was once a small game and slowly over its time it has grown, adding many features to the game. Things such as new areas for us to explore, new job advancements, new skills and indeed new classes. All of these features are a beautiful thing, it is what has kept the game enjoyable for me for the last several years. One of the largest features they have added since the dawn of the game is the cash shop. Where we spend our real life money for some addons. As you can see by my characters I have been quite the fan of cash shop clothing, and I do not see anything wrong with spending some of the money I work for on little clothes and hair for my character in a game that has given me so much entertainment. Anyway I shall get to my point now (just as the new kitten runs across the keyboard and attempts to attack the letters that are apearing on the screen). For quite some time these features have been purely optional, nothing but clothes, hair and pets to enhance your characters looks. Things that I like to call addons. But as the game grew, perhaps nexon saw a massive chance to make a serious ammount of money. These cash shop items slowly start to turn from simple addons to nearly essentials to make money and enjoy the game in general. First I see the exploitation of the sheer length of this game by reducing its time in half by having us pay for 2x exp cards. (you could argue that these are optional also, but try playing this game without using them and see how hard it is. For those of you who do, I have an enourmous ammount of respect for you.) Then we move to things such as the gachapon, where pretty much all the new and exciting items are added into, forcing us to pay to recieve some new items that should be free to the game. It continues with such things as the owls used to search the free market that would otherwise take hours to search. Making us pay to reset 1 stat point, god forbid we make a little mistake in our stats. The list of these could go on, I don't have to point them out to you, you should be able to realise it for yourself. Now to prevent myself from seeming biased I will say that yes these items can be avoided, but the point of it is that without spending money on them, the game is long, hard (lol dont say anything) and quite boring. Now however, we get to the fun part. All these things have been brought in over time and t

I just think that all other "free to start an account" games have the same method of selling out. Maplestory in comparison is not that bad . And games that aren't like that either totally suck or are made my nexon themselves. :P

please don't post an opinion on it if you just skimmed it as you don't get the full picture. I have a job and I have been happy to spend money on this game. But why should we pay to recieve all the benefits of the game? If they wanted to make serious money then why do they just not charge us to play, id be more than happy to pay some per month to play.

This thread is WIN. Although I expect NX flamers to come here and take you down. I read this whole thing, and I'm sorry I have to say...in the 4th paragraph...long and hard? Methinks you should rephrase that. And I agree with you buddy, I've played on and off since Beta, and I've been a Beta Tester. Back then no1 had higher damage than others much...

I completely agree with you. You're smart. However, the MTS is a little bit of a balance there. It is free to play, and if you actually try, you can make MUCH more than you need to buy all the hammers you'd ever want. I can spend as little as 120mil on certain items and get 50K NX for it. You forgot one thing though.. Gachapon boxes things and those meso bags. You pay NX to get either pure mesos, or very rare items? Not so great..

Maybe its more that out of them all, this would have to be the one with the largest following. Just a bit dissapointing when you have played this game the whole time and supported it all the way. |

I read all of it, and I do have to say I agree. I just came back after 8 months off Maple, and some of the changes were really disappointing to me. I definitely agree about the scissors of karma thing. When I was lower levelled, and even now, I always looked forward to being high levelled enough to go on a Zakum run and earn a helmet. Yes, earn one. But now, even if I did gain the levels and went and earned one, it wouldn't be very special because every other person would have one and chances are they'd have bought it. It does suck, and I do miss how things used to be, but I don't think that's ever going to come back. Such is life. =/

It has become unfair I find. I don't feel any resentment towards people you buy NX to gain an advantage though. I have only bought 5k NX (used for a pet) [My avatar is edited and not how i appear in game. NXless] Nexon needs to make money, and they aren't going to charge for a game. Before the 2x cards and Gachapon, a low % of people bought NX to just dress up. Then BAM Gachapon and 2exp. Now people who have never even thought about buying NX started buying regularly to make money and train faster. SoK and Vicious Hammer haven't affected the game on quite such a large scale, but they have the same affect.

I read it all and I completely agree. I couldn't have put it better myself. In the early days, the Cash Shop items were not supposed to give players a gameplay advantage over non-NX users. Over time, that concept has been eroded. When 2x EXP cards made their appearance in the Cash Shop, that for me was the beginning of the downward slope. I mean really, it's like cheating - buying your way to the 'top'. I have never used 2x EXP and never will. That's just my own personal preference - I can understand why others may use them but it's not for me. I'm only level 78 after 3 years of playing but I'm proud of my achievements and know that I got there through hard work and determination. The Karma Scissors are a rip-off. Just before they came out, a lot of items that were previously tradable became untradable. Hello, profits for Nexon? Vicious' Hammer is a luxury purchase for those wanting godly equips - if they want them, let them have them. It doesn't bother me, but again it's a gameplay advantage. I could go on, but my lunch is ready so I'll leave it there, but thanks for the thread - I agree with the TS.
