So I'm looking to buy a new computer, but I just not sure on which brand I should buy. Can anyone list some brands that are good, and some that are not recommended? Right now, this is what I can think of, but I'm not really sure if it's correct Good: Sony Acer IBM Asus Not sure: Toshiba Correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm pretty sure that all these brands use similar computer parts; they just charge more if they're a "name-brand" or "well-known" I own a Toshiba, 2 HPs, and an Asus. They're all great. Customer support is the only difference I can think of between the brands... (Gateway sucks at that!)

Don't look at the brand you are going to buy from. Look at the specs of what you getting. Edit: DIY Desktop > Brand PC. xD

It's not really about the brand, just the specs per price. Also, Asus usually makes good stuff, especially laptops.

Well-known does not mean better.

But knowing they make components for those brands, I would buy an Asus. My old desktop is an HP and it works like a charm, its 6 years old.
