Rub lotion on them. -thumbs up- Using your thumb to rub against the colors should make it look different. I works with a pencil at least.

Would a blending stump work? I know they work on graphite, but I'm not sure on colored pencils.

Use a white colored pencil or a wax pencil (like Prismacolor Colorless Blender). I tried both and prefer white colored pencil, but you should see what works for you. Also, adding more layers of colors would help too. Usually you need many many layers of colors when working with colored pencils.
