If Bob can swim 100 metres in the time it takes Ben to swim 90 metres, and Ben can swim 100 metres in the time it takes Bill to swim 80 metres. If Bob swam 100 metres, how far can Bill swim in the same amount of time?

72 metres EDIT: Bob 100metres = Ben 90 metres = Bill ? (80/100)*90 = 72

M16nobohmm just figure out how far bill gets when ben swims 90 meters. the ratio of bill to ben is 8:10 so times both by 9 to get 72:90

100/90 (Bob/Ben) 10/9 (Bob/Ben) Simplify it more For every meter Ben swims, Bob swims 1 1/9 Meters 100/80 (Ben/Bill) .. For every meter Ben Swims, Bill swims .8 meters therefore, for every 10/9 meter Bob swims, Bill Swims .8 meters Multiply both numbers by 9 to simplify. For every 10 meters Bob swims, Bill swims 7.2 meters Multiply both numbers by 10 For every 100 meters Bob swims, Bill swims 72 meters.
