If you want somethign for a eyar or two, get the first one, but if you want somethign you can upgrade over time with a good deal, get the second but i would recommend getting link its awesome and a good price

The video card sucks with the 1st one, and HP has a better one.Dell has 1 more GB Ram then the HP. The main difference is the 64bit operating system in the Dell, that the HP does not have. But, the HP is a better PC then the Dell, as Dell has gone down hill in the past few years. So spec wise, the Dell is a better PC, but reliability wise, the HP wins.

Actually, stay away from that Dell you posted. Compact cases have expensive power supplies. Instead of getting a $10 - $20 replacement part from a local computer store when the supply dies, you'll have to pay $70 - $100 to get it directly from Dell. I recommend that Acer that was posted. Core2 Quad is overkill, but the price kills the HP. If you need a monitor, you can get a separate one from tigerdirect or newegg (or some others if you look around) for $130 that's a 20 inch HD widescreen, which would still be better than the HP. Now, if you were willing to build one, I'd be able to give you some good recommendations. My newest computer cost me $210, and it's not shabby at all. : P
