How does uploading an avatar work?

I recently had an avatar made for me by the grateful ixaxtav. Well, I don't really know how to get it to replace my current one. It's in PNG but it needs to be GIF right? And I don't know whether it's aligned or transparent :/. If anyone can help, here's a link to it: link Please, help me if you can

Even when aligned, made GIF, and made transparent, an avatar can be rejected by how distracting it is. Just wanted to put that out there.
