Should i drop out of highschool and go for GED?

Hey, well so im 15 turning 16 in July. Im currently a sophomore and for this semester i will be 1 credit short of a junior. Well i totally messed up my whole freshman and beginning sophomore year and im 8 classes behind which i need to take(including 3 gym >.<). I just hate high school and i cant deal with it and i dislike its whole educational system, well now with the budget cuts and all i dont think ill be going to summer school this year meaning im in deep risk of graduating late. Then a friend told me about dropping out and going for my GED. I then pondered on it, so i just did alot of research on it and it seems it is far more better than continuing highschool. Anyone can take the GED test after they turn 16 and is not registered in any highschool. Everybody says the GED test is extremely easy, even for people who left school years later. So im pretty positive ill pass. I also plan to go to college too, community if anything and then transfer to a 4 year. So wouldnt that mean i would start college maybe by next year if everything goes as plan? So i would be 16 going to college while the rest of my age is still just a junior in high school. I need somebody's view on this, anyone who has gotten a GED favorably? Is it worth it in the long-run, will i really be ahead of my age, does a GED differ from a high school diploma? Oh, and i live in NYC if that helps.

A High School Diploma is always nice, though. Speak with your guidance counsellor about taking courses outside of school times. Like Choir, or Dance, or Band. Sure you wouldn't want to spend extra time on it, but you'll be getting a High School Diploma. 'Just throwing that out there.

My friend was in same situation. But he had pretty bad family background too..oh and GED doens't mean you're only confined to community colleges. He got in to UVA, Johns Hopkins, and several local universites that are in the upper area. Just make sure you do something productive during the time in which you go in your little break. i'm not saying you should tho...the choice is up to you. But good luck :D

Well, a High School Diploma looks much better than a GED. But, if you really can't get it, then a GED is better than nothing.

Well on paper, a GED pretty much = a High school diploma, but when it comes to getting a job, it's just not the same. Stay in school bro. Even if it means retaking a year or having to take summer school or something. Don't drop out.

Well, my friend dropped out of school. He wanted to get a GED but he's only 17. You need to be 18 to get a GED from what he said :[ all he does now is play handball at the park all day :[. unproductive

You know..highschool diplomas won't matter as much as your degree..I mean I guess it's nice to have a nice seal of document proving you were schooled by the local system, but GED, I see that as even if you gave up, you made the effort to make advancement in your life. So idk..I guess it depends on people's outlook on things..

I do plan to go to college, really dont want too but i have no choice if i want to have a good job. But wouldnt that put me in the lead, ill finish community college by 18 or so then ill transfer to a 4year?
