Scrolling Superstitions

I narrowed the outcomes of scrolling down to 3 things. Im curious to see what the general population believes in :D 1. Andy-ism (predetermination) - The exact scroll that failed for you would have failed for anyone else. Individual scrolls are programed with a specific outcome. If I blew a clean dagger up with a dagger attack 30%, magically turned time back before the scrolling, gave the scroll to someone else, the same exact scroll would keep blowing up the item, no matter what. 2. Natalie-ism - The basic principle of this is that where a 30% would have failed, a 70% would have worked. If you 30% an item, it fails, you turn back time, 60% it, it fails, turn back time again, and 10% it, the 10% would work. Scrolling, therefore, is guesswork. You have to guess the overall % that a scroll will pass. 3. RNG - The most common belief. Scrolling has absolutely no factors in it, other than the raw numbers. If a 30% fails and you turn back time, the same 30% scroll would work eventually, assuming that the random number generator really is random every time. Which do you believe in? :D

Probably RNG, but maybe andy-ism.

Well, I had a scroll on a P izza S lice fail; got rolled back, and it passed later. :x

This is completely pointless. Even if the guy that wrote the code for scrolling came here and told us what it is, IT DOESN'T MATTER because none of these affect the outcome. If a scroll fails, it fails. Cry some more. Who cares why.

i do beleive it is random, however i do beleive that after failing 5, 30%'s in a row, my chances of working a 30 are better.

i once failed 4 30%s in a row without having the item break lol

Where'd you get the names from? O_O Anyhows, I believe in Natalie-ism, purely down to the fact that dummy scrolling has been effective on my behalf and I've scrolled many good items. But from what I've heard, the RNG is the way things work in Maple. Still, skullcaps increase the chance of the scroll working.

i get the logic of the second one, if they add to 100% it will succeed? but it is a RNG because some guy made a thread and it was like thousands of numbers and percents of all outcomes, i cant find it, tho

The problem is RNG may be based off anything, if it's based off time in seconds.. it's really random, if it's based off something oddball like channel you are on coupled with another variable who knows -- you might have better luck on a certain character/channel/time/etc than others. I noticed early in this characters career that 70%'s worked 99% of the time. For the last 10 levels or so I would say 70%'s work 20% of the time but I can use 2-3 30%'s in a row on different scrolling ventures. Random obviously but be careful on how you believe the random seed is generated and how often it is regenerated. Programmers are notorious for this. Also note that your first option, predetermined basically, would still be based off a RNG... just not at time of use >_<;

This is just an interesting poll. It is absolutely pointless. You're right. Even if we knew the way the actual system works, we still would need a time machine to perfectly scroll an item, lol. Andy is a friend of mine who believes in the determinism theory. My name is Natalie, and I believe the second theory. Thats how I got the names :D

I think number two makes no sense, that either number one or three work, because number one first uses the RNG to produce the outcome or that the RNG works when u actually scroll. Edit: I see how number two works, but i just don't think that it makes sense that that is how scrolling works.

@zamongdan. You're right. It does not affect actual scrolling. But in theory, a +5 weapon (5 30%s) with 0 slots *could* have been a +7 weapon (5 30%s, 2 70%s) if the scroller had chosen to toss in 70s where a 30 would have failed. kinda hard to explain
