Basil Chat = Trojan ?

| meebo chat is subseptable to virus attacks. im getting warnings by all of my virus programs right now as i type this and its slowing my pc down. it IS NOT a false positive as far as it seems so far. especially since all my programs are boucing off the walls tryin to get rid of it. luckily i have a decent firewall... meebo also slows basil down alot.i dont kno how he figured it was a good idea to implement it into basil...its known for allowing the spread of virus attacks... note that i already have meebo chat disabled but it still comes up... |

| It's not a trojan. One minute, I'll tell you why it's detected as a trojan. Edit: As far as I can tell, Kryptik is a rogue antispyware. Rogue antispyware usually use iFrames or javascript to force people onto another webpage, to download their virus. I've seen meebo's javascript, and it isn't a trojan. Though it's certainly long enough to be detected as one. Edit: I took a look at Basil's source, and it does use an iFrame to display the BasilIM GUI. That's why it's detected. No need to worry. |

No need to worry." i ran a scan in my rootkit and its finding it as well so i doubt it was a false positive. harmless, perhaps..but it never hurts to be safe and clean it up. i do scans daily and this is the first time showing up and its comin from temp files downloaded from basil..upgraded the security settings so it will block it completely.. and when threatfire tells me something is harmful, most of the time it is. and meebo is known for security loopholes and such..its always a target of attacks...it all adds up on my side so ill assume the worse. o.o; and it isnt just eset that detected it. all my anti-virus software detects it. disabling the chat feature was the only way i could stop the detections. |
