Are you proud to be American?

Well, it's a very simple question. Are you proud to be American? I am somewhat. I'm proud, because we often help those in need, and we're very understanding, but I'm not proud because sadly we resorted to a low, and tortured people, and also a lot of Americans are very stupid, and I just can't stand stupidity, and ignorance. Also, right here I want to say that I'm not using a stereotype for the "ignorance and stupidity," part of my little explanation. I was going off of people who I know, who like to pretend they know a lot, but when questioned are shown to be stupid and ignorant, and frankly that's the vast majority of the people I know. Alas, I think as you get older, it gets better, seeing as how a few grades later there's a lot less of this ignorance. But yes, the ignorant/stupid Americans just make me slightly ashamed/embarrassed, because we have such a great educational system, but they do nothing to take advantage of it, and instead copy, and only know enough to seem like they know what they say. So, are you proud? And why are you proud? Or why are you not?

Honestly, never felt a shred of pride, yet never felt embarrassment. Sure, there's a lot of stupidity running rampant, but where isn't there? Like a poster above stated, ask a British person or even a Canadian about an Ethopian and they wouldn't know. And if stupidity is so common in America, then why are a good portion of the world's top colleges and universities in America? Why do college students from all over want to study here? I also find it hypocritical that people would bash America based on intelligence level, because personally, I find the ones who buy into stereotypes that readily to be just as ignorant. I'll stop now before I turn this into a complete rant and draw some heated responses.

Sure, there are things that I wished were different in the US, but I'm still a proud citizen of this great country. Nothing is perfect in this world...

Stereotypes will always remain, and a large part of it is how we let others view us. People will always though notice ignorance in Americans, just because people say they are ignorant. They're biased before they even know us <3

I'm not proud of some of the decisions our gov't has made. And I get sad when people from other countries say hateful things.

I'm immensely glad I live here but you shouldn't have pride in something you did nothing to achieve. I'm thankful for everything.

Yea, I'm proud, but I do think that Bush's torturing was in the right place. It has stopped a few attacks on America. What's low is killing civilians to try to destroy a nation...

If you ask the entire American Populations what nationality are you? Only about 5% of the population will say they are American.

Like most the technology I'm using today are American discoveries. Also America is probably the youngest country.Which proves my point even more. I would only say there "stupid" if I were deadly jealous. @above there is no such thing as a 100% American. Our families migrated here at some place seeking a better life in the best country.

I'm not proud of being Dutch. Why should I? I have not achieved anything to become Dutch. I wasn't part of the people who founded the country. I don't shape the Dutch culture nor does the Dutch culture represent me. I am in no way linked to the Dutch charity workers. "We the Netherlands" does not exist. I'm glad to live here, but proud... It's dumb luck I was born here. Patriotism and national pride are in my eyes dangerous. I have nothing to do with the Netherlands exept that I love there and was born Dutch. The Dutch have no national pride. They don't need it. The Dutch have the Royal House for that. They love the Queen and that's it. Loving the Netherlands? Nonsense. It is not part of the Dutch culture any more.

Most of this should be yes tho.. So im a little perplexed over the result.. I mean.. We hear "Im an (something from another country. Ei, asian) american" and we always seem to hear "Pride pride pride" all the time too..
