Alienware M17 or HP HDX18 Labtop?

Hi everyone! I'm going to be buying a new labtop and I really want one with the power of a desktop computer, are very stylish and overall are entertainment powerhouses!So after a while, i've come down to Alienware's M17 Labtop and HP's HDX18. I can't really decide, so i thought i'd ask the nice people of Basil Here are the specs of the M17~ -512MB ATI Mobility Radeon� HD 3870 -Intel� Core�2 P8600 2.4GHz (3MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB) -17-Inch WideUXGA 1920 x 1200 LCD (1200p) with Clearview Technology (Experience Extreme High-Def 1200p) -Illuminated Keyboard with Numeric Pad (Alienware Exclusive Design) -Genuine Windows Vista� Home Premium (64-bit Edition) with Service Pack 1 -Internal Digital / Analog (ATSC) TV Tuner with Adapter -4GB� Dual Channel DDR3 SO-DIMM at 1066MHz � 2 x 2048MB -500GB (250GB x 2) 7,200RPM (8MB Cache) w/ Free Fall Protection [Extreme Performance (RAID 0)] Here are the specs of the HDX18~ -Genuine Windows Vista� Home Premium 64-bit with Service Pack 1 -Intel� Core�2 Quad Processor Q9000 2.00 GHz, 6 MB L2 Cache, 1066 MHz FSB -4096 MB (2 x 2048 MB) DDR2 RAM -500GB 5,400RPM Hard Drive -1920 x 1080p 18.4" Diagonal High Definition HP Ultra BrightView Infinity Display The M17 costs $1,984.00 and the HDX costs $2,199.99. but with the M17's shipping fee the price goes up quite a bit and makes it pretty much the same price as the HDX. So basically, I can't decide and I was wondering which you guys think is better. Also I'd like to point out that the GPU was not specified for the HDX, the M17 comes with DDR3 RAM and the HDX comes with DDR2 RAM. Well I'd go with the M17 because it's 17 inches.. which is even too big of a screen for me. >_> The HDX is 18 inches right? Way to big.. Spec-wise though, the M17 could have a slightly faster processor. Do you need the TV tuner? You could make some other upgrades instead of having that.

eww alienware sucks , go with the hp . hp sucks also but this is a laptop

If you choose to get the Alienware, I'd recommend the 720p screen instead. And they do charge a few hundred for the name.. Also you could upgrade the RAM yourself and save $130-140.

Eh, theres a bunch, the MSI GT725, Clevo M860TU, Asus N90, Clevo M570ETU, MSI GT627 are the ones I can think of. All of those are meant for higher end gaming and come in at under $1600

Skye, would you recommend a Macbook Pro for gaming and schoolwork? Money doesn't matter, by the end of this year I should have turned $2000 into $10000+.

Chances are, if it can handle gaming, it'll be fine for video editing and 3D rendering and photo editing. EDIT: @above, 9.05 pounds O_o I hardly call that a laptop.

Too bad the Alienware is 9.5lb and the HP is 8.9 lb And don't expect to be going anywhere with a laptop with a quad core and video card XD Maybe you can get like 10 min playing CSS lmaso

As another said, if it can game, it can likely do pretty much anything else. Video editing/Encoding/etc can be done fine, as well 3D creation/modeling and the like as well. f0x3r said: "This beats both. link " Way ahead of you, noted that on page one. While its a bit better than the on noted, its also about $400 more expensive.

I'd say Macs are only worth what they are worth if you actually need the software on a Mac. They aren't too great for gaming, I think Skye would agree. And looking at his post above me, he also mentioned that they are only good if you need the software.
