Which graphics card?

I've been hearing many things lately such as "most games out there support NVIDIA better than ATI" and "ATI has been better for years." I'm not looking for best price to performance ratio, I'm looking for best overall performance. Sound, power usage, etc. does not matter. I have also seen benchmarks pitting the two cards against each other, but I am still undecided. From what I've heard, NVIDIA is much more overclockable, and I am going to be overclocking to the max, so it seems I could squeeze much more performance out of the GTX 285. Also, as the CPU will have a high OC as well, bottlenecking will not be a problem. One question that is really bothering me though is about a setup of a Core i7 processor with an NVIDIA graphics card. According to this article ( link ) there are NVIDIA driver issues that will hold back both the card's and a Core i7's full potential when coupled together. Has this problem been solved yet? And, just for the heck of it, I would like to know what you think is the best graphics card out there that is currently released. Question Highlights - Which has better performance w/ an i7 CPU: ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 or NVIDIA GTX 285? - Which of those two is more overclockable? - What is the strongest single GPU card out? (NVIDIA GTX 285?) - Has the NVIDIA driver bottleneck been fixed? link - What is the best graphics card out there? (performanc-wise) Note: This question was posted in my last thread. I completely removed previous threadstarting text, bumped the thread with the same question, and waited for 7 hours, but it was not answered. If it is not answered in 7 hours, why would I expect it to be answered any time later? It just keeps going down the line while everyone avoids it, believing the question in the thread to already have been answered.

If I'm so stupid, then why don't people make themselves look smarter by actually answering the question? It just looks like a person thinks he/she is making him/herself look smarter by coming in to say something such as "stop making threads" but not answer the question, when it really just looks like they do not know the answer and they don't want it to show. If you want to come in to tell me I'm a stupid idiot that can't read, at least have some dignity and answer the question. By the way, most of that wasn't directed at you, but it would help if you could be a mod and someone who answers questions at the same time, if you even get any of that.

gtx285... and if your REALLY need MORE POWER.............................. then you can get 1 or 2 more LATER... it's not like if you get a gtx285 and its not enough for you, that you're screwed... and from what i've heard the 4870x2 and the gtx295 run extremely hot edit: this is the last thread that ii am ever going to answer one of your never ending same questions..... if you want help then ask politely... if you want no help, then keep being as rude and snobby as you are now

I think my question is being misunderstood. I'm not asking which one is "all that I need," I am asking which one performs better. I want to know which card overclocked insanely, the GTX 285 or HD 4870 X2, will perform better when coupled with an overclocked Intel i7 920. EDIT: What the hell? How am I being rude and snobby? I asked nicely, I don't know what you're talking about.

Since the GTX 285 and the Radeon HD 4870 X2 are so close to each other performance-wise, I simply want to know which performs better, even if by so little.

Even a power-hungry freak like me would think that's overkill. I'm going to use watercooling which means they will both be at very low temperatures before overclocking. Hardware-wise, though, wouldn't the 4870 X2's larger memory give it the edge when playing at a resolution of 1200p or more? And are there or are there not still NVIDIA driver issues w/ i7 procs?

The higher amount memory doesn't really show much difference in performance in most cases. I think the 4870 X2 setup might be a bit better, but I don't think it's significant enough to show any difference. I also don't really like ATI's drivers as they gave me BSoD the last time I tried them. If you want my opinion, get either or; either is more than enough to play any game on the market at decent frames. EDIT I really think you should stop making numerous threads; just ask the question in the old thread to bump it and then add the info into the opening post or something...

You probably should have read this whole thread before posting, as I clearly emphasized, with a header, that I edited and bumped my last thread with this question and waited for 7 hours, but I did not get any replies at all, so I had to make this thread. EDIT : Should I get the OEM version of Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit, or the retail version? Is it true that you can't upgrade your hardware when you use the OEM version?

Also, I don't know if that was a mistake or not, but 3 GTX 295s are not possible. We were talking about GTX 285s.
