Desire for power; no longer a valid reason to hate someone?

I just came to further reveal the already blatantly obvious. As any rather active basiler would know, the amount of hatred directed towards a specific class in Maplestory was partially due to the following reason - power. This particular class was bombarded with an array of accusations which, to be quite honest, was nothing less then dehumanizing. For those of you who are yet to guess what class I am speaking of, it's that class with its supposedly unprecedented damage per minute ratio, a class infamous for its cockiness and the class which in the eyes of most, are merely a bunch of pompous gits who believe excess online play is worth a boast - the dexless sin (dramatically inhales). I know, the mere mentioning of the class is accompanied with disgust. However, are we really worth the alienation which has been bestowed upon us? Critics claim that we're a bunch of illiterate, power hungry fiends. Illiterate? Fair statement, an extremely large percentage of us lack the skills of basic English which is most likely due to the game being global. However, I fail to comprehend why a desire for power is shunned upon. Is that not the desire for a rather high percentage of maplers? What else would persuade someone to spend hundreds of millions of mesos on a SCG with a mere 1 or 2 extra attack than their previous one? There really is only one reason, power. Another prime example is the 'recently' formed class - the Lukless mage. These people simply disgust me. Just get a load of them, they dislike the equipment of the usual magician so much that they will completely deter any possible chance of wearing them by not committing a single ability point into LUK. Well actually, these people seem to also have this demonic like desire for power which is surely a valid reason to completely hate every single last one of them, irrespective to whether or not your yet to meet even a minority of them. I shall give a minor mentioning to the class pirate and more specifically gunslingers. Ever since the class was introduced I seem to hear less and less about enjoying the class and more and more about their godly damage during fourth job. If anything, these guys should be the 'power wh0res' as they are willing to train for 120 levels to become stronger than a dexless hermit. We on the other hand gain great power from day one. So I guess you and I have similar traits, ay? We both lust over the thought of power. The desire to reign superior amongst your peers is simply human. In fact, one who lacks such a desire is either extraordinarily pure, lying or simply too unmotivated to achieve anything. This is extremely evident in thousands of instances such as sports and education. You want to win that football game, you want to achieve an O.P 1 and you want to have outstanding damage on Maplestory! In conclusion, I shall aim high and expect there to never be another degrading comment directed towards dexless sins, and any other class for that matter, pertaining to a desire for pow

Aside from your pretty linguistics, the luckless mage is the manifestation of a "dexless assasssin" mentality. No one will validate this though, because people have some one they hate already, and it would be hypocritical to swap half way through the game.

This game is about fun to me. If you find it fun to hit the highest damage in the then have at it. I find it fun using a slow attack capable of consistently 1-2 hitting monsters while still maintaining a good bit of power while bossing(crusher). I personally will never enjoy any class with a majorly high dpm because I like warriors so that takes out all the other classes. I much prefer power over speed so that eliminates Heroes(Heroes have a lower damage per attack than Dark Knights, Heroes only have a higher dpm because of attack speed). Spears are also my favorite weapon so it made the choice obvious that I would have fun as a Dark knight. First class that I hit 50 with because I finally decided to stop caring about damage. All you have to do is not worry about damage and you WILL have fun, provided you don't hacked or any of that junk.

Lust for power, absolutely. To be better than any one else, couldn't care less. EDIT: Strange how low dex assassins (points at self) still get respect even though we have the same goal.

People wrongfully judge a class, when really it's just the fact that those jerks whom are obsessed with power and care only for themselves, choose said classes to gain an upper hand. I find MOST dexless sins and lukless mages to be quite nice, But i see jerks from every class everywhere... Such as one Ice Lightning mage who came into my bubblings channel, Asked how long i'd been hunting when i asked him to change channels. After responding with 2 hours, he said "Good, one will drop soon, sorry" and continued to KS me... Those selfish pricks make me angry. If people didn't judge from looks, their would be a lot less trouble.

It is not the power that is hated. It is the way they use that power. It is because dexless assassins are so powerfull that many people like to play them. So what happens? People are peacefully training in their map. We all know at some point there will come a jerk into the map to kill steal this person out of his map. Since 50% (not a proven fact, but you get the meaning of it) of the MapleStory population is an assassin and therefore does better damage then the person inside, most likely this person will get ksed by this assassin. Thus creating an image of ksing assassins that steal your map. Also, since other classes do less damage, they are less likely to ks this person out of the map, so they either have to party with the person or change channels to look for an empty one. While the assassin would just come barging into the map, killing every monetsr in its way and thus ksing someone out of his map, a stereotype is created, because other classes lack the power to do so (in most cases). It is not the power that is shunned upon, it is what you do with it. There are many nice assassins out there, that will just change channels, ask for a party or look for another training spot if a map is full. But since the majority of the MapleStory population is an assassin, it is more likely to have a jerk playing an assassin and ksing someone out of his map then for example, have a bowman ks someone out of his map (because they lack the other power to do so, in most cases). That's how the stereotype of the ksing assassin is created. So now people will bash this class, because of the stereotype. That's how things work. So remember, it is not the power that is hated, it is the way you act when you have the power. Also, this would make your thread pointless, because we can say more bad things about the class, not because of the power, but how the players use it. And one last thing, you sound like it is all about power. It is not. It's proven in my post and it is also proven by, for example, perma-beginners. These people want a really tough challenge. It is a different type of power (to talk in your terms) they seek. *Old-fashioned martial arts Japanese guy talking* It is the power within they seek. Edit: I counter your wall of text with another wall of text. Muahahahaha. Edit 2: Paragraphed it better.

I know that I've talked to many of them and probably 80% of them said the reason they made it is so that they can KS other people. Wanting high damage is not a reason to hate someone; wanting to KS someone just because you can is. To your point about the Gunslinger being the damage-obsessed, I don't find that true. We work through a hard 120 levels simply to become powerful for one out of four jobs. Assassins are strong from the start. So, the damage-obsessed choose the Assassins because they can't wait 120 levels to be strong, they want instant gratification. |

Dexless sins are extremely overpowered, which means the class attracts power hungry, stuck up jerks who want to dominate other players through cursing, often backed up with ksing or else just ks for the simple fact that they can, and its free. Simple but true. You cant fight that fact altho the rest of the sin population is pretty nice (the small minority).

On topic: So really, it's the persons lack of ability to contain them self from conducting injustices due to such a large amount of power at their disposal? That seems very logical. Also, a desire for power exists within the majority of maplers, I think I stated it somewhere in the text. Thanks for reading. |

Would it still be a lust for power say for a lukless or low luk mage, to want the advantage of gaining more MP each level and the ability to train at monsters five to ten levels earlier than their normal luk counterparts?
