Octo or Ice/Fire?

| Well, I'm still debating on whether I should either go with octopus or ice splitter and flamethrower after rapid fire. What I'm looking for between the two is highest % per hour and pretty much just how easy it is to find an open channel. Thanks in advance! Oh and if I do go with ice splitter and flamethrower, which location am I suppose to train at for best leveling results? o.o |

| People say Octopus because it helps at newties but uh... it doesn't help THAT much. Do Flamethrower and Ice splitter next. That why you have your mobbing ability all set by your mid 9x levels to go on to areas like Nightshadows, Typhons, and Gobies. Himes are good too if you dont mind burning -a lot- of pots. If you do Octo immediately, you'll be stuck at newties for a long while. Newties are good enough in 8x without using Octo that you won't miss it, but by the time you're entering 10x, newties just aren't as good anymore; which is why I recommend having the mob skills ready by then. Remember:25/26 Ice, max Flame. |

| Thanks, that was very helpful :D Just one more question, with the Ice/Fire build, where should I be training in the early 80's? |

| Newties are probably the easiest way to get fast exp in 8x. I sniped there until I built my mob skills up enough to switch to mob maps later. Some people also like the Water Goblin map in Zipangu and Blue Kents (if you do Flamethrower before Ice Splitter), and Red Kents is a decent spot imo (if you do Ice Splitter before Flamethrower) |

The two skills are only worth using with ice splitter max and with nearly maxed flame. In my opinion. You really don't have to wait that much for that to occur, it happens in low-mid 9x depending on SP allocation. EDIT: not to mention that Ice can freeze monsters saving tons of money. For the poor EDIT2: not to mention that Flame's DPS can vary, but on average will be less then burst fire's: The Comprehensive Gunslinger Guide said: " Single-Target Damage Triple 20 = (210% * 3) / .69 = 913.043%/sec 3-Target Damage: Burner 30 + element = (160% * 1.5 * 3) / 1.05 = 685.714%/sec Burner 30 + Cooling 26 + fire element = ((160% * 1.5 * 3) + (122% * 3)) / (.6 + .6) = 905%/sec 6-Target Damage Burner 30 + element = (160% * 1.5 * 6) / 1.05 = 1371.429%/sec " Burner 30 + Cooling 26 + fire element = ((160% * 1.5 * 6) + (122% * 6)) / (.6 + .6) = 1810%/sec So its only when damaging atleast 4-5 monsters that fire alone has a better DPS then Triple. On the contrary, burner + ice gives a nearly equal DPS as Burst fire. Its probably more, since the equation doesn't factor in DoT for being burnt. |

| None of the 3rd job mobbing spots are that good for Outlaws. Gobies are res to fire - FT doesn't do much to them other than keep them in place while your Ice Splitter cools. Typhons are immune to ice, Outlaws kill them horribly slow and even as a Corsair I can't kill them very fast - I have to alternate between Air Strike and Flamethrower/Torp, which is awkward. Himes are ok, but the pot burn is worse than Newties and it honestly isn't noticeably faster. I just stuck with Newties through 8x and 9x and started partying in 10x. Parties are way faster than soloing. Octo saves you one-two Burst Fires per spawn and can allow you to start killing two per spawn earlier. It's an okay skill. |

| Hmmm this sounds very interesting. Thanks for your input everyone :D I think I'll probably do a mix of both octo and ice in the 8Xs since they seem both equally useful. |

Curious, how difficult was is to find a party at 10x? Also, you took bottom I'm assuming? |

No one kills newties "fast" in 8x, yet its still 20+% an hour on 1x. The fact that gobies are fire resistant makes so little difference, its moot. They have tiny HP amounts and I had no problem dropping all 6 in no time at 10x. Typhons aren't "fast" kills either, but if you're doing it right its way faster than newties. I soloed typhons at about the same exp speed as a newtie party in 10x; I had parties at typhons that blew away newtie parties at those levels. Wrath of Night (nightshadow map) is also known to be very good. |
