Familiar with To Kill A Mockingbird?

If you guys have the book I'd like you to look up something for me. In chapter 4 a few pages, when Scout is rolling in the tire towards the Radley's here's an exact quote from the book, "There was more to it than he knew, but I decided not to tell him." What does that mean, why does she say that? I have 2 theories, 1.) Jem doesn't know she's a girl and says that her acting like a girl is "mortifyin". or 2.) It has something to do with the laughter coming from the Radley's. Please help me out, I have no idea what's going on and I have to write a log and I need to know what's going on.

Just ignore that part or pick one, unless your teacher reads every single one throughly, but even if its wrong you would still get credit as long everything else made sense. I HATE this book...>.<
