If someone has told you "People used to think the world was flat." That's false information. People say it in a context as if an entire civilization believed the world was flat. In reality if you were smart enough to read then you knew the world is round. Maybe some retarded peasants thought the world was flat, but retarded people today may think the world is flat. The masses of people never thought the world was flat though, as a matter of fact in ancient Greece Ptolemy calculated the circumference of the world and he was off by 1% of it's real circumference. Also, based on my limited knowledge of the subject, I think they didn't even need to read to be informed that it was in fact round. The presumption was everywhere yet people back then just struggled to accept it because it seemed nonsensical. Just think about it, I know for sure if it wasn't for education I would believe the world is flat. The mere idea that someone could exist on the opposite side of the globe without simply 'falling off' seems so idiotic without correct reasoning through science and mathematics.
