Question for Serious Gunslinger Players

I'm currently level 41 (and enjoying the Gunslinger despite sketchy damage) and getting serious about the character. What sort of gear, apart from the guns and bullets obviously, is required for a powerful Gunslinger? By that I mean what is the gear to shoot for (pardon the unintentional pun) for a well-equipped Gunslinger? I'm not necessarily going for a godly equipped Gunslinger, but I do want one who can do damage enough to make training bearable between 4X-and 70. Are we talking 11+ WG's, high dex Facestompers, insane scrolled dex earrings, and other stuff, or can I get decent damage for less?

Well, the first thing you wanna think about are the "normal equips" before you think about the usual godly stuff. If we look into the pirate overalls, it looks like the lvl 60 and 70 overalls give you free DEX. Also, if we look into the hats and shoes, we can see that the most of the shoes give +1 DEX (and the lvl 60 one gives +3) and the lvl 50-70 hats give +1 DEX. so now, we have about 3 DEX. That's not a lot, so let me show you some ways to think outside of the box... The green bamboo hat gives you +3 DEX. Use it. It's extremely cheap the last time I checked. Blue WG's give +1 DEX. Scroll it a little or buy one scrolled. If you got a Sauna robe that was 100% for all 10 slots for DEX, that's 10 DEX. A 100% Earring would give you 5 DEX. That's some pretty nice DEX right there for a bunch of "cheap" items. Pretty good, huh? If you want ATK, then you're going to be looking at some REAL money. If you want to go cheap, then PAC's are the way to go. I recommend a 2-3 ATK PAC. Some capes give ATK too, so go for those too.

Damage wise is it even worth shelling out for the high dex stuff, or is it a better idea to just save mesos and immediately go for the high attack 10 Atk WG's and stompers and whatnot? I realize it's relatively easy to get decent Dex gear (and far cheaper than going all out on high Atk gear) but would having, say, a ten dex cape and a high dex glove and shoes be as worth it in the long run as just holding off and blowing tons of Mesos (and NX and $$$) on high Atk gear that I won't end up replacing? What would be the cheap "final gear" vs. the expensive "final gear" yield be to me in terms of damage (and thus levelling time). I know with high attack stuff on a Bandit you can pretty much get 1.5X the rate of experience by killing monsters faster (at an earlier level), but does the same hold true with the Gunslinger? Their attacks seem to be pretty much the same all around, in that you find a place to snipe, snipe snipe snipe, and so forth. I suppose what I'm really getting at is, can Dex Gear suffice until 70, or will I stunt my levelling speed by holding out? I'm new to pirates, I played a Chief Bandit for longer and the staying OUT of mob reach has got me confused as to how to increase damage.

Attack is better than dex. We're not like dexless assassins. I suggest you go for as high attack as possible. Of course 30 dex will be better than 1 attack, but that 1 attack may be better than 10 dex.

I can manage that, I think. So probably the best bet would be to start super equipping at fifty? When should I start seriously scrolling guns? Are the 40-70 "hell levels" pretty hellish for Gunslingers?

If you have enough money get as much attack stuff as you can. You could start scrolling guns at around 50 until you want to cap your STR for your end game gun

I picked up a 10 attack WG, which hopefully will last me until such time as I want to go for broke and get a 13 attack SCG or a 14 attack BWG. That seems like end of the end game stuff though. Assuming I am not going to get a Z. Helm, (which I may not, I dunno), what's a good time to cap strength?

A good time to cap strength is whenever you decide you have enough for whatever your final weapon is going to be. Figure out which overall you're going to settle on, which gun, etc. and then figure out what your base str and bonuses from equips will give you. Assuming you don't get a Zhelm, this will be a bit higher, but then it also purely depends on how well you scroll your equips. I hear a lot of people cap in the 70-80s if they aren't getting a Zhelm, but I don't have an exact number to provide, as again, it's all about what bonuses you get from equips. I've seen a lot of 'slingers running around with 8 atk WGs and 20 dex sauna/bath robes and they generally tend to have pretty good damage from what I've seen (certainly aren't shabby in CPQ), so I don't think you need to be 'omgodly' in equips to have some nice numbers.

That's good to hear then. I suppose my "final plan," assuming that I GET to any high end level, is going to be a more Attack oriented Slinger/Outlaw/beyond. I don't have any real hobbies (really) apart from Maple Story (and working, ugh), so I don't mind blowing money that I would use on movies/video games/going out towards the odd NX related Gacha run for mesos, which then go to getting more powerful stuff. I have a few decent scrolled items that may come off my Chief Bandit and migrate to my Slinger when he's level 50. If I avoid the Z. Helm, and just try for 10+ WG/SCG, go for a high Dex PAC/Earrings/Overall and Shoes will my damage be badly reduced, or just knocked off by a few points? Any of you high levels have a preference for weapons? I know the Dragonfire is the best, and if you uber scrolled it, it could be insane, but how big of a difference is it going to make at high level training spots?

Biotic said: " Can you buy them from a NPC?" No I believe they drop (like 100% Helmet dex/int etc.) The drop tables are listed in a Sleepywood.net thread entitled 'Drops according to Monster Book' or something like that. If you search 'monster book' in sleepywood.net you should find it. I'll have a look if it's not blocked for me.
