| Neither. It's not any. It's just a skill that shows a Purple Dragon rawring and attacking everything on the map. EDIT: Is it really a slash or stab? |

 | The past few people are right (alternate and skazo) and I'm stunned that Cy doesn't know this. When DKs use most attacks, Cy, they don't use the damage range shown on the screen, only part of it. Actually the only times that damage range is ever directly used in MS with totally random selection are: sword users, Bandits not using ME, Assassins not using L7 or Triple Throw, and Bowmen (and maybe Pirates). Axe/BW users, L7/TT users, Mages, and all DK attacks don't directly use it. When an attack only uses slashes or only stabs they only use part of the damage range and dump the rest entirely. The part that's used is: Min = ( W * 0.9 * Mastery * STR + DEX) * WATK/100 Max = ( W * STR + DEX) * WATK/100 W is the variable here, the rest being constant (STR, DEX and WATK are based on your total stats and Mastery = 0.6 unless it's not maxed, 0.8 if you've got max 4th job Beholder). W = 5 if it's a spear using a stab, or a polearm using a slash. W = 3 if it's a polearm using a stab, or a spear using a slash. That's why Polearm Crusher and Spear Fury are just barely more than half as powerful as Spear Crusher and Polearm Fury. If you look closely at the damage ranges on Hidden-Street you'll notice that they use 3 in the min and 5 in the max for both weapon types; this is because the displayed range shows both the minimum for a polearm stab/spear slash and the maximum for a spear stab/polearm slash. Now the deal with Roar is that it doesn't use either of those. Roar is unique in that no matter what weapon type you're using it just uses W = 4. This means that assuming you've got 60% Mastery, its overall average STR multiplier is 3.08, a trait shared with 1-handed sword users. Polearms on a swing or spears on a stab average 3.85, while polearms on a stab and spears on a swing average 2.31. If they're using an attack that can be both (PS, SB or Sac) then polearms average 3.234 while spears average 2.926 (the lowest of any weapon type). |

Holy kaboodle you know your stuff, and the cool thing is I totally understood it all no lie hahaha. Mind telling me how bw damage is calculated, or are you implying that every other weapon is calculated using the formula you used up there? |

Mind telling me how bw damage is calculated, or are you implying that every other weapon is calculated using the formula you used up there?" Min = (W * 0.9 * Mastery * STR + DEX) * WATK/100 and Max = (W * STR + DEX) * WATK/100 are always used for warriors - and in all other situations except for Mages and L7/TT, and technically L7/TT can be expressed in that way - but they're sometimes used differently, and BW is one case. For BW (and axe, and 2nd job PA/spear users) the game determines whether you get a slashing or stabbing attack (the only WK/Paladin attack that forces an animation is Rush, which uses a stab - the rest of the time it's 60% slashes and 40% stabs, even with Blast and ACB). Then it plugs in the W value for that animation to the above formula and randomly chooses a number from the resulting "mini-range." A 1h BW uses W = 3.2 on a stab and W = 4.4 on a swing, while a 2h BW uses 3.4 on a stab and 4.8 on a swing. This means that their exact total average STR multipliers (to be compared to the average ones I listed for DKs) for attacks that use both swings and stabs are 3.0184 for a 1h BW and 3.2648 for a 2h BW. For reference, axes use the exact same multipliers but Brandish is 50% swing, 50% stab. The damage range you see on your screen shows your minimum stab and your maximum swing, which is why it's so wide. If you were to see just swings or just stabs it would be a lot closer, like a sword user. |
