Why do YOU have a boyfriend/girlfriend in MapleStory?

Hey guys! I've recently gotten NX for the first time in years, and spent it on getting new hair and a new face. I'm pretty happy right now with my character because the main reason I play MapleStory is to have a pretty character (isn't she so color matched?). :] Yeah, I'm pretty superficial and looks-obsessed in real life, and it shows. Anyways, apparently the pixel makeover has attracted several guys I meet in MapleStory. Some are EXTREMELY persistent, and sometimes I just say yes after 20 minutes of harassment in CPQ2, but after I say yes I just get really confused. What's the point? Are we supposed to act differently? Do we start talking like a couple in real life? Am I supposed to feign concern for and warmth towards this stranger who is now my MapleStory "boyfriend"? If we show each other pictures of ourselves and I'm disgusted by him, should I "break up" with him? Would things be less awkward if we got to know each other as friends before being boyfriend-girlfriend? Forgive me for being skeptical. I'm eighteen and in college already, and with the abundance of real life romance and flirting (with sexy, real college boys!), MapleStory dating just seems pointless. So tell me, why do you have a boyfriend or girlfriend in MapleStory? How did it happen? I want ALL the juicy details, baby. ;]

This is very opinion based, but there is a bias to this. Most ppl who play maple are like 10-15 and most likely they don't date in real life because they don't have the guts to ask a person out. In my case is that girls at my school (im in gr 10) are really shy about dating and often blush and just sit there... (awkward) In maplestory its sort of like an anime world where people's dreams and desires come true because we can be who we want. When i had a ms gf, it was for entertainment and just to get to know someone. In other people's cases, most often its because the boys are horny and want girls. Even if its pixel. Its human nature, can't change it, can't deny it. You took your time writing this interesting chat, i'll take my time writing an interesting response.
