My wife just had a miscarriage. Worse than that actually- it ended up being ectopic (which means the baby grew in her fallopian tube instead of the uterus). Her tube ruptured and she bled internally until we could get her to the ER. She went into DIC due to all the blood in her abdomen- lost 25% of her blood actualy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disseminated_intravascular_coagulation) (10-50% fatality rate- the medical nickname for it is "Death Is Coming"). Thank God my wife survived after a few days in the ICU. However, obviously the baby did not make it- they had to remove the whole tube as well as the (I have a hard time even saying it) 'baby' growing in it.

3 years ago, I was informed that one of my aunts had a venerable death; she sacrificed herself to save a boy who nearly got hit by a truck (not that's altruism, eh?). During the summer of 2010, my parents told me that story was naught but fabrication. She actually committed suicide.
