Rewrote the guide to help f/p mages of all levels Enjoy and feel free to discuss. 1st job Build +1 Energy Bolt(1) +20 Magic Claw(max) +15 Magic Armor(max) +10 MP Boost(max) +15 Magic Guard(max) +6 Energy Bolt(7) Result Magic Claw: lvl 20 (max) Magic Armor: lvl 15 (max) MP Increase: lvl 10 (max) Magic Guard: lvl 15 (max) Energy Bolt: lvl 7 Discussion 1st job we got 67 sp available. This is pretty straightforward: max everything except energy bolt. Magic claw is better even though it does less dmg cuz it can hit 2 mobs at once. But if you really want energy bolt pwnage, then you can drop Magic Armor instead (not recommend for low levels though). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 2nd job Build +1 Teleport(1) +1 Spell Mastery(1) +20 Fire Arrow(max) +19 Spell Mastery(max) +3 MP eater(3) +20 Meditation(max) +19 Teleport(max) +17 MP Eater(max) +20 Slow(max) +1 Poison Breath Result Fire Arrow: lvl 20 (max) Spell Mastery: lvl 20 (max) Meditation: lvl 20 (max) Teleport: lvl 20 (max) MP Eater: lvl 20 (max) Slow: lvl 20 (max) Poison Breath: lvl 1 Discussion At the 2nd job we have 121 skillpoints to use. The first point goes into teleport for faster traveling. Then 1 point into Spell Mastery since it's a very good passive buff, even at level 1. Followed by Fire arrow, which will become our main attack in the 2nd job. Note: Pre-BB, the hybrid (FA+PB build) was very popular due to extremely fast leveling with poison. After BB however, poison training isn't the same as it used to be. Poison dmg is now based on your attack range, not the monsters HP and the changed accuracy formula won't let you hit monsters which are many levels above you. But if you really want to use PB, then you're in a tough spot. All other skills are extremely useful, even for end game players. MP eater post-bb feels like godmode. Even into late 4th job, training with MP eater cost barely any mp pots at all. Slow isn't useful for training, but very convenient for bossing later on. The only skill that is obsolete later on is fire arrow. So, maxing PB means you have to endure 2nd job without fire arrow or you'll miss out on great things later on. Note2: Arch mages who received SP resets could consider dropping FA for PB instead. Calculations shows that PB adds to our DPM(damage per minute) on bosses with high MDR(magic defense rate), since the DoT effects takes your max attack range and ignores all MDR. However, the difference in most cases isn't significant at all. PB vs FA for 4th job mages is like choosing a barely useful skill against an obsolete skill. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 3rd job Explosion Build +1 Teleport Mastery(1) +1 Explosion(1) +3 Elemental Amplification(3) +11 Spell Booster(11) +19 Explosion(max) +9 Teleport Mastery(max) +17 Elemental Amplification(max) +10 Elemental Decrease(max) +20 Poison Mist(max) +9 Spell Booster(max) +11 Seal(11) +20

Personally I'm not a fan of stacking DoTs and am not interested recasting Poison Breath and Elemental Composition every 5 seconds just to keep it at its max. I'll probably drop Poison Breath in 2nd job and Elemental Composition in 3rd job.

PB and comp have a 10 second DoT duration. You can put PB, comp and Mist in a single macro for more convenience. Not maxing comp would mean maxing partial resistance, which isn't that much better either. Though I have to admit that the DoT of PB doesn't seem that high. But at least it might have some uses for a 4th job f/p, while FA is practically useless after 4th job.

so the PB poison will be lowered? also can i have a reason for having Ifrit? i know that it may be a good tool for bossing but what if we were lvl 14x and dont have enough point to max everything out XD should we still get ifrit at our level?, because i know it would be usefull if we boss alot but i kinda wanna train and i was thinking of getting Big Bang to c if its another way of training if Misting because time may be lowered for it? kinda lost in what u guys are saying above me cause i think that the time of the PB and such will be lowered?

Green4EVERHow early would you say to max Ifrit? I'm having second thoughts about putting points into it because it just doesn't seem all that helpful. Currently I have 30 Meteor, 30 Paralyze, 30 Fire Demon, 30 Elquines, 20 Maple Warrior, 1 Infinity, 12 Big Bang, and no Mana Reflection or Hero's Will, if I recall correctly. Maxing Big Bang or Infinity seems like a better choice, but I'm not entirely sure yet so I'd like another F/Ps or even I/Ls opinion

me personally, i would rather have passive, eternal max resistance and just recast booster. same effect, just a little shorter. mages have tons of MP, and since we have almost no defensive skills, you should really embrace it, even if it's just for your own elements, it's completely worth it. what order would you max your skills now?

This is my opinion on our DOT Post-BB, based on that information in the BB forum/guide. Im assuming all of these skills are maxed. Poison Breath will do 280% base damage, with 10 seconds of 60% DOT damage after that. Because we wont be spamming Poison Breath at bosses (at least I hope you guys wont O_O), it should be alright to add the total DOT damage directly to the base damage and call that the total damage done from one cast of Poison Breath. So with one cast of Poison Breath, we have done 880% damage . Poison Mist does 130% base damage, and 15 seconds of 160% DOT damage, but Mist does last for 40 seconds so a monster that stays within the mist for the entire duration has a good chance of getting poisoned 3 times. Using the same reasoning as above, a single cast of Mist would do a total of (45*160) + 130= 7200 + 130 = 7330% damage . Even though the casting time of Mist is slow, a majority of the damage that comes from Mist is DOT therefore it should not affect the final damage output by a lot. Ele Comp does 500% base damage, and with an 80% chance, causes a 90% DOT for 10 seconds. This would average out to about 1220% damage per cast. Finally Paralyze, which we will spam a majority of the time while bossing, cannot be calculated the same way as above. Paralyze does 620% damage base, with a 160% DOT damage. According to a majority of sites I looked up on, all poison effects are added up and work every one second interval, and Paralyzes casting time is 84 casts per minute, making it slightly faster than the poison effect. This means that Paralyze would theoretically do slightly more than 880% damage . Because Paralyze will be spammed, a bulk of the DPM we get from Paralyze will be from the base damage. Thus I believe that Poison Breath will hinder our DPM slightly. I would not put 20 points on PB for this reason, but also because as I have not reached A/M yet, I still need Fire Arrow. It is also worth considering whether DOT is even applicable at boss runs. Post-BB, F/P mages could be considered decent bossers, as with I/L's. Because an F/P mage's poison DOT is considerably stronger than fire DOT and they do not stack, fire DOT will not be used for bosses. However I/L's, who's only form of DOT is ice, may collide with our Poison DOT and possibly cancel each other out. For anyone that bothers to read or consider any of this, you deserve a cookie. :D

You can't just add the numbers. Crit and Mastery don't affect DoT damage, and Amp doesn't affect DoT damage. For 3rd job, I would drop 9 points from Seal. Seal is just pointless now that Paralyze can mob.

Edit: Scrap that. casting PB once at the cost of 1 paralyze = 880% of accumulated PB dmg > 620% paralyze hit dmg. Maxing PB should still be a good idea. Edit2: DoT damage ignores Magic defense rates. On a boss like Pink bean (70% mdr), this is HUGE! I suggest to max all DoT skills.

Is elemental reset really good ? Since it is reseting element of attack (like fire demon become neutral and not fire anymore) if you use an ele weapon you lose bonus damage. And are we not supose to lose 25% of damage when using an attack who is not fire/poison with an ele weapon ?
