| First thing's first... I'm an Atheist myself. Now that I got that out of the way I can go right into my argument. I think most Atheists tend to dismiss the idea of God existing entirely (no, I'm not talking about the God of religion). I can say without a doubt in my mind that I DO NOT believe in the religious God. I think the Bible, Torah and Qur'an are complete nonsense. All religions on this Earth believe in a fabricated, non-extistent, fairy tale god. I'm talking about the idea of any kind of God, even a massive energy that created the Universe. I'm not saying I believe in this kind of God either, but I do acknowledge that it could exist. Something could have created everything, and put us in motion yet never interfered with us. I think if there is a God it doesn't want to make itself known to it's creations. I think the purpose of life here on Earth is to live life to the fullest, and be the best person you can be. If there is an afterlife we will be rewarded based on the type of person we are, and not on how much we worshipped God. I think the existence of this type of God would make more sense than the idiotic, vengeful, and egotistical god described in religion. However when I bring this up to any other Atheist they continue to believe they "know" that no God of any kind exists. The truth is we don't know if God exists, and we don't know if God doesn't exist. We can dismiss the gods of various religions, because those gods share to much human traits, and don't seem divine enough, but we can't dismiss the idea of a God entirely. |

| I agree, but the whole idea of atheism is the rejection of any form of godliness. You're talking about a more agnostic/holistic view. |

Congratulations, you're agnostic, not atheist. Have a nice day. |

| Borderline agnosticism/fatalism detected. As an atheist myself, I'd say atheism builds a lot upon intuition and confidence/confinements of security in your daily life. Maybe one day, everyone will realize the throne they worship is dead. On the other hand, a god may one day appear and pass judgement on our sinning butts. I choose to believe that the former will happen. |

| The absence of evidence is not the evidence of absence. Simply because you don't have evidence that something does exist, doesn't mean you have evidence that something doesn't exist. There are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns -- the ones we don't know we don't know. |

| It really depends on what you define as "God". I'm open to the possibility that there are forces at work beyond naturalistic understanding, but it's very unreasonable to say that you know the will and nature of them. I thought this was an interesting video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6w2M50_Xdk |

They do not think its "slightly possible" or "we can't rule out the idea!" As an atheist, I say this : god does not exist. That is an atheistic POV. Yours is AGNOSTIC; meaning you don't rule out the idea but you don't exactly believe in him either - you should read up on the meanings of terms before discussing them to avoid anger from those who are among those groups. |
