Right now, if a woman were to walk onto a train/bus/whatever, there will probably be a guy that will stand up and offer his seat. However if we turned the tables, and a man were to walk onto the train/bus, its expected that he stand up and allow other citizens to sit. However, if there were equal gender treatments, everybody would stay in their seat thinking I couldnt care less what gender you are were on equal grounds now EDIT: I think there should always be differences between men and women, and differences means there will be superiors. However this in NO way mean that women should be in the kitchen and men should be breadwinners. I'm just saying that traditional roles had the right idea of having gender differences. Sorry, but I'm a Right Winger.

actually people would either be polite and offer the seat or "rude" and keep it. gender equality wouldn't stop things like that.
Eeveepony : You've never been on a NY bus or subway I see. It's dog-eat-dog
Hard to get on a NY bus/subway when I'm all the way in Sydney.
Deciduous : actually people would either be polite and offer the seat or "rude" and keep it. gender equality wouldn't stop things like that.
If everyone were caring and offered their seat, it would be an infinite loop. Therefore being the selfish/prideful/busy-life people we are, we're probably gonna be rude. If gender equality still allowed that, then guys and girls would be on equal grounds for everything except social etiquette which defeats the purpose of having gender equality.

Well, I think the world is fine as it is. Women have more rights, but are still somewhat lower than men. Just enough for them not to be treated as lesser yet something a man feels he needs to protect. Feminists are just lonely virgins that never had a high school or college boyfriend (that appreciated them for who they are/were) and now think that they need to be equal, when in all honesty, they get the longer end of the stick.

I agree. And I find radical feminists annoying. They tend to be fat/ugly/dried up, bitter women.

SerenadeBass : i'm not trying to say keeping your seat is rude, that's why i kept it in quotes. some people may be extreme enough to perceive it as rude others might see the reasoning behind it...or just be apathetic. and when it comes to gender equality, an issue as small as a seat or opening a door isn't even on my radar honestly.

People need to acknowledge that yes, there are different sexes, and they are usually capable of different things. One may be better than the other some of the time, but it goes the other way too. But this doesnt mean either is automatically any better than the other. Personally, if I am polite to a woman, such as holding a door for her, its not that I am automatically doing it because she's a female and I am a male, but because I'm being polite, and doing it regardless, or trying to make a good impression on someone I find attractive.

When it comes to gender equality the bottom line, for me, is that women should be (considered) our equals. And if you truly feel that way, everything will 'fall into place' I don't think you can really look at specific examples like that because (well #1 they're so petty) society has been male dominated forever, and that comes across in pretty much everything. And it's not like it's all just utter, discriminatory nonsense - it's the way it is for many reasons, but it's getting increasingly outdated. However I don't think males and females will ever be truly equals. They're far too intimate, you can't interact with any other living thing on such a high level as with other humans - and they only come in male or female, so there's bound to be some struggle between the two.
