Why do we play MS and actually spend money on this game? This topic may have came up already but I havent seen many of them so I would say not many ppl actually wrote such a thing, but my question is why do we actually play this game? Sure getting to know people is fun and things like that but really their is no point in playing this game. Yet it is so darn addicting that we can not stop playing it. lol. Well at least for most of us that is. Ik I play this game and I find it fun but really don't know why I find it fun. Maybe it is the people who play it, or just the feeling of getting stronger and killing hard bosses? So what is your reason you play this game still? I mean what gives you the motivation to keep lvling up and spending money on this game. Whether it be real money, mesos, or MTS NX. Why does reaching such and such a lvl important to you? All you will receive is higher dmg and a higher lvl to tackle on harder monsters but really their is no actually reward. No ending to this story what so ever. Just you hit 200 and thats it. Sure I never hit 200 yet but from what I know there is no actual ending to this game and overall no point in playing it. Even though the right thing to do maybe to quit this game and move on to more productive things in your life. I just can't seem to stop playing it. For me I find grinding and lvling up fun. It is really weird isn't it. Finally just want to say ik there will be flamers coming in this thread saying things such as. " You are a dumb for wasting your money and time on this game. Quit you no life loser!" I just ask please keep the flames down a bit and enjoy the discuss. I would really like to understand why people actually play this game, and motivates them to keep lvling up and upgrading? Thank you! P.S. I know their will be major grammar nazis in this thread as well. I am cool with it though. So go ahead flame me for my grammar! Like the forgotton apostrophe in haven't right in the second sentence ;p

Yeah, there's the levelling up and grinding aspect of Maple; but there's also the making connections and friends aspect. To some people, Maple is a psuedo MSN, and while that can be argued, "why not just go on MSN?", I'll counter with an example. There's this forum called Gaia where basically people pay money to make their avatar on the forum look better. Like Maple, but with just the socialising aspect. I guess it's the thrill of being better as well. There are people who are happy with their character, and can easily brush off whatever insults may be thrown their way about their look or damage. There are other people who are easily affected by said insults, or change themselves to be better right from the start.

So if maple just consisted of cute avatars with no action at all will that intrigue you to play the game still? Like say for example there were just towns and you did things just with the community? Will you still be playing this game? Also to mewforty thats true that you can say that about life. However, I think thats a bit different though since for one Maple is a game that won't really do anything for you, and two your life actually means something. To the first poster great point!

Basically MS is like a drug, you're addicted to it, it's not really helpful to your life at all, and you spend money on it.

So let me get this straight here. MS is for community and getting to know people around the world or in this case mostly US. The dmg hoars and "pros" are just doing so bc they want to be "something". Just like the Jock in high school or prom queen/king? We spend our money on this game to keep getting that attention we seek and its addicting bc we want to keep it that way?

My good prof tell me very interseting point once. I just like you before and i ask him, Why doctors make less then basketball players? He say simple point : Life can be ok without doctor, but without basketball players (they symbolize entertainment), life be boring. So doctor save life, but without basketball player, life be too boring. You can put other entertainment and substitute for basketball player. That what i think maple is like. Even if game not do anything for you, it still be fun. We not be able to understand what life fully means because we not no what occurs after death. Maybe life is like game also, and after death it not do anything for you. This very very deep topic, and one that would not likely be solved.

[/quote] but what makes this game fun from any other game you play? Is it the 2d atmosphere that keeps you playing this game from say ruinscape? What is the actually motivation you have to keep lvling up and being "pro" or trying to be "pro" in this game? Keep in mind Im still trying to figure this out myself. Which is why im posing this question.

It all depends what you like in the game. I just wanna kill Zakum solo, and that's the reason i actually try and level. For some, it might be cause they're friends playing or cause of guild, or maybe just pure boredom and nothing else to do. I see your level 160 and that might be the reason you feel this way about the game, since you probably killed Zak and other bosses, gone into guilds, got 4th job etc, but still feeling as if you have to reach 200.

[/quote] Thing is though I am probably one of those guys that even if hits 200 wont quit this game haha (call me a no life dont care. lol. I do have other priority's in life mind you.) so yea your right I have soloed zak and things like that, but still not really bored of MS. Sure I taken breaks of this game and right now not actually playing the game at all. just go in the game and talk with ppl. As of now no motivation to even lvl up anymore but I still find me coming back to this game. I took a break to go to Wonderking but eventually I came back to maplestory. Been playing Vindictus which imo is an amazing game but still end up spending more of my time here. Don't really know why either. If you were a stranger you probably think this is pretty sad but other maplers can understand this? What I dont get really is why? Why are there "pros" in this game who want to get better? Why strive for something and not really achieve anything at all in the end? Edit: Anyways guys keep these answers coming. I want to see what everyone thinks about this issue. It be fun lol. I am going sleep since its 5 am here and need to rest. Ill come by and check this out sometime later today.

@trips486 Hi Joe ! i've been thinking about this subject alot and alot of times! you log onto the game. theres nothing to do. you end up doing nothing. (looks at watch , and the time have flied 4-6 hours already) And if you re-call what' u've done (Nothing). Hehe my point is , MS is to Addicting in the first place. & i enjoy buying stuff in MS :o for example buy Smegas that aren't even worth it. but it makes my time go by i'm guesssing it's the people on it , combined with the addiction that makes it fun
