Is maxing out Slash Storm necessary?

I mean, it's really weak and I pretty much just use it to get around the map. Is buying a mastery book and getting it to 20 really necessary? What are some benefits to maxing it, besides slightly better damage?

If you plan on reaching at least 80+ I say get it. Unless you know for sure you plan on not training with Bloody Storm, as Maxed Slash Storm is a Pre-Requisite.

Only if you plan on only using FaTsUs and not FaBs or FaBsUs Fatsus = Faster Training, Better Mobbing FaBs/FaBsUs = Less pot costs from iFrames

hmm ive seen fabsus/fatsus training.. it seems like bloody storm is just for people who like saving potions? i dont mind pot costs.. i think training speed is of higher importance. But I see your point about maxing SS.. is bloody storm a must-have?

Well for me I loved saving pots. The i-frame is awesome And I trained at Himes rather than Gallos so Bloody storm was perfect for me at that flat map, and when the occasional Crow comes I just BS through him. I eventually converted to FATSUS once I started at Skeles though. But yeah SS -> BS = Money saver.

Definately. Look at any guide and you'll see its importance, especcially because it is required for Bloody Storm. I have a 200 DB, and getting Slash Storm was the best idea i ever had (Besides Flying Assaulter maybe) not just because it is amazingly powerful (because it isnt, and Triple Stab is more useful) but because you can use it to go through bosses who might instead 1 Hit KO you, you can roll your way out of tight situations where to need to escape through a mob, and because Bloody Storm is some pretty sweet mobbing skill. Mainly cause it looks preeeeety sweet.

SS is only good if you wanna save pots, but FATSUS is your main training combo from gallos on.
