maplestory is extremely slow and laggy to me, especially at night. I've already recived two: "You have been disconnected becuse of the HACK reason." (i can't believe they capitalized "hack") I don't hack, I just have a pretty slow computer and internet (dem ACANAC) I there a way i can sped up my computer/internet WITHOUT buying a new computer or switching internet compagnies.

BobRThe only things you can do about your Internet connection is to make sure no one else in your house is using the Internet at the same time as you're playing. If anyone else in the house is downloading torrents or streaming video, or doing anything else that uses up a lot of "bandwidth", it will cause Maple Story to be "laggy" because everyone in the same house shares the same total Internet speed. If someone is taking up most of it, there won't be much left for Maple. The next thing is to be sure, if you have a wireless router, that the router is protected with passwords that will prevent anyone else in the neighborhood from "leeching" your Internet speed by logging into your router. If they start using your Internet to download torrents, it will slow you down just like anyone else in your house would. You can also try resetting the MODEM (the box that connects to the telephone line or Cable TV cable) by unplugging the power connector from the back of the modem, waiting a few seconds and then plugging it back in. This will force the modem to negotiate a new connection with your ISP and hopefully bring it back up to full speed. Beyond that, you're limited to whatever speed your contract with the ISP pays for. The only way to get more speed is to pay for more. As far as your computer, if you have an older one it's vitally important to be sure nothing else is running when you try to play Maple Story. No browsers playing YouTube videos, no music players, no other games, nothing. Everything that runs at the same time takes up some of the computer's CPU resources and anything else running will contribute to the "lagginess" of the game. If your RAM is low, adding more RAM, up to about 2 GB will help prevent "disk swapping", which happens when the computer runs out of memory so it has to save part of the game to the hard drive and load more of the game from the hard drive. Then when it needs the first part again it has to reload that part from the hard drive and save something else back to the drive. All this loading and saving will cause the computer to pause slightly, making it "lag". More RAM will help prevent this from happening. Depending on exactly what kind of RAM your computer would need, you can usually expand the computer's memory fairly inexpensively. If you have an "integrated video card" built-into your motherboard, it will be sharing some of the computer's RAM, and thus adding to the above problem. Also, built-in video is usually a good deal "slower" than a separate video card would be. You can add a separate video card, which also has its own RAM built-in so it won't add to the above "swapping" problem, fairly inexpensively depending on exactly what your computer would need. This can help a good deal with lag caused by slow video response. Cleaning up your hard drive by deleting unneeded things and then defragmenting it so all the disk space is "contiguous" (all in one piece) can help a bit also, and it's easy to do with the built-in tools

" someone else in the house streaming video..." I think I just found the problem, but then I can't tell my dad "stop watching movies, I'm trying to pay MapleStory." *I don't wanna get beaten* and please explain what "reformating" is

reformating is basically restarting you computer in a way. You can reformat to another kinda of Windows. E.g Windows Seven. Or just Reformat it into the same thing you have right now. E.G Windows XP- Windows XP. You can also try deleting your internet files- Options> Browsing History(something like that)> Clear

Download GameBooster, end close all programs before entering maplestory, tell your Dad that the internet is really laggy, or somehow convince him to buy Cable internet.

BobRDO NOT REFORMAT YOUR COMPUTER. It WON'T help with this and will, as was mentioned, ERASE everything on the hard drive. Try playing Maple sometime when you know your Dad's not using the Internet and see if it plays ok then. Unfortunately, that's probably the only thing you can do.

Theres Gamebooster which someone mentioned up there it helps but not a lot, And theres also GameGain and it helped me A LOT It really easy. But apparently you have to buy it or it's like a 1 week trail something like that. But I recommend GameGain for the time being it's awesome =)

BobRI hadn't heard about GameGain before, but it looks interesting. @ yxl12 - it might be worth trying GameGain on your computer, but if the problem really is your Dad's using the Internet at the same time it probably won't help all that much. The trial download is free for 30 days though, and if you really do find that it helps your computer play MapleStory better, the full version is only $9.95 at the moment. They have another product that combines GameGain and Internet optimizing called "Game Boost" (which is probably going to get them into trouble with the GameBooster people- it's a different company and a different product). There's a 30 free trial of that too, and if it helps it's only $17.95. If you're interested in trying either of those just Google the name for the download links.

[/quote] It doesnt really do much actually.. If you reinstall you delete everything, if you don't have much on your computer.. well obviously it'd be faster than with alot of stuff.
