i don't get why it's bad to tell a girl you like her in text

maybe im crazy but why do people say its bad to ask a girl out while texting her? same applies to IMing i do it all the time, like if im texting a girl ill tell her i like her blah blah and if she responds with something positive, ill text her back asking if she wants to hang out or something

If you have a legit reason for not seeing her face-to-face, maybe it's all right (even then I think calling and actually talking is better), but if I saw a guy regularly irl and he tried to ask me out online, I'd turn him down instantly. If he doesn't have the guts to ask me to my face, he's not getting anywhere with me.
