A very scary virus

Jeez, I just got out of one heck of a scary virus. I opened an e-mail that was sent by someone named Michelle Shultz; lucky for me, that's the name of my English teacher! But my English teacher is far too technologically-challenged to be able to input such devastating viruses into emails... Anyways, upon opening the email, a software called Antivirus Action opened up. It configured itself onto my bottom toolbar. Upon seeing it, here's the difficulties I faced: The "Symptoms" -Unable to close it, right clicking it opens the window, left clicking does the same, middle clicking does nothing. -Unable to open a single .exe file. Yeah, absolutely nothing. It only allowed you to open internet explorer. Not even notepad, calculator, AIM, itunes, google chrome, microsoft word, etc. It said that the file was infected and asked you to buy antivirus action to fix it--an obvious scam. -Unable to browse the internet on Internet Explorer. It redirected every page including google to a "windows cannot display page." It looked like a "windows cannot display" page, but it said "upgrade Antivirus Action now." on it, so you KNOW that your internet was working. -Pop-ups constantly. -Allows you to open file folders and such. -Pops up internet explorer webpages of Viagra.com How I "Solved" it I had to transfer all my music, photos, and documents to a portable hard drive, one by one. Literally, one by one, making sure there was nothing aside from picture files, music files, and word document/notepad files. Afterwards, I restarted my computer and went on the other administrator user account. To my surprise, Antivirus Action did NOT open, and the internet was free to browse. So I figured that it was a file that lurked in the Users file, specific to users. So, I created ANOTHER administrator account, deleted all accounts on that computer aside from the newly created one and the one I was on, went on the newly created one, deleted the one I was on, transferred all files back in, and restarted my computer. Once again, Antivirus Action didn't open, so I'm happy. Now, I don't know if this solved the problem. What I do know from constant research for the last 2 hours is: Antivirus Action is not a keylogger-type virus, it's a virus that urges you to pay money for the program, which ultimately does absolutely nothing. It makes you pay by locking every function in your computer, and unless you explore the possibilities, you're screwed. I still don't know if it's lurking around in my computer. I sure as hell am not going to download ANOTHER program to get rid of this one. Anyways, lesson learned: don't open random emails. I never thought I'd fall for something like this.... and unlucky me, the hacker used the same name as my teacher. But there's lots of Michelle Shultz's around, since my school already has 5 people with the Shultz last name that aren't related...

Had that, on my old comp, and I did fix it somewhat with malwarebytes But it killed my comp to the point that next week, my comp would no longer start. O-o

im just holding this spot while i read... OMG TS I HAD IT TOO! I system restored my computer and i got it last year when i still used myspace. Lucky for my no life computer skills i was able to save my stuff in time. I hope my dad doesnt fall for scams like these i really feal sorry for him when i didnt know stuff about computers.

Try getting spy bot search and destroy. It might be able to fix it. Edit: there's probably still a trace somewhere on your computer

That happened to me once when i still had windows XP I suspect it was because i had a barbecue over the summer, and I invited over 40 people over. Of course, a few of them were using my computer, and many people are telling me one of them went on dirty websites I basically got the same thing as you, however, I was less informed than you were, and believed it. I pressed it to remove the virus, and unfortunately, i got a virus instead. I regret not backing up any of my files beforehand, so I lost everything i did in Elementary School and Junior High >_> It prevented me from using any other programs as well. I back up my files weekly now. I still have the fear that the virus is lurking around in one of my files.

i had something similar except it was called like DefenceCenter got rid of it using a program specialized to get rid of it. 1-2months later i get BSOD'd
