Is Maplestory really "Just a Game"?

The longer I play maplestory, the more I hear things about people committing suicide because of Maplestory and stuff. I trust some people I met off the game more than some people i know in real life. Half my guild knows my cell number, and I sometimes think they may be better than my RL friends. I was wondering, can we still call Maplestory "Just a Game" its effecting RL so much?

Yep, it's just a game, and you just seem a bit addicted. Try and spend a few days away from the computer. It's good for you. Oh, and go outside during those days.

Hm.. To me it's more than a game. I've met one friend from MapleStory at an art fair two summers ago, and almost met two others on vacation last spring break. Many people in my guild have my phone number and we're friends on FaceBook, MySpace and Xbox. I plan on meeting another friend I've grown rather attached to this December, and we text daily, often filling up my mailbox. People who only get on every so often and don't mix personal life with the game, it's probably 'just a game' to them.

The friends can last of course, but if anyone makes the game itself more than just a game, they're not the smartest person.

It is a game. Period. But the people that you meet ON the game are more than pixels. They're not just NPCs within the game. They have feelings, they respond to you, they're people. You can have a relationship with people. I met my boyfriend online on a game over a year ago. We met in real life and we've been living together for the past 4 months. Relationships (friendly/romantic) can definitely begin in a game. Edit: Typo

It's not likely to meet friends you can trust/meet in RL without fear of them being ped0philes, but it's possible.
