Why do people steal art?

I was browsing deviantART, and I found this, which looks a bit too much like this. Why do people steal art? I mean, atleast here, you should atleast do it properly... (If you open it up in 2 tabs and keep switching between the tabs you'll see how similar it looks...)

[/quote] If you're talking about that Kasey Bowman thing, she got busted and it was all revoked and she was left with nothing and alot of haters, that seem worth it? OT: They do it for attention obviously, the praise, the faves, the pageviews. I don't know how they can be happy with that tho knowing they don't deserve it. Btw your links don't work, there's been issues with linking directly to deviations for quite a while, try to click download to get a direct link to the pictures. If you see something like this you should always report it and link the owner of the original to it, that girls got a gallery full of traces...

I cannot give one reason and proclaim that it is the paramount reason for stolen artwork, but I can list a few common causes: -positive attention -benefits (such as the scholarship) -fame Btw, to clarify. This is what the TS is trying to compare (you have to copy+paste these links; clicking on them will not take you to these links... From looking at the two picture alone, there are obvious similarities but they don't really have the same style to actually look stolen. However, if you superimpose one over the other, I'd say the 'thief' actually traced the picture almost line for line, only really modifying the ears and hair. What I also noticed is that the girl in the 'stolen' picture is supposed to be wearing a pink dress, however her chest is actually not covered. You can see the dress (or what ever it's supposed to be) behind her arm, but no in front of it. Browsing through the person's Deviant account, I have a feeling they've stolen a lot of artwork. As for why they do it, maybe because they feel that their real skills aren't good enough for the Deviant community?

For some reason, I am not very surprised. I hate it when people steal art, I really do, but I always thought that a lot of people stole anime/manga. I had a lot of friends who were extreme anime fans at my old school, and they always traced their art (I was certain), because they could never draw original characters as good as they did the ones they showed me. What was funny too is how proud they were of their traced art. I am probably just generalizing, but whenever I saw anime art, I always wonder if it is copied from someone else's work. In any case, I post a lot of art to deviant art, and I always allow for it to be shared, modified, or for it to be used to make a profit. I honestly don't care if people take my art and call it their own. At least I have the pride in knowing that I made mine, and they have the guilt in knowing that they stole their's.
