How do you know if someone is ASIAN?

during lunch today, some jerks walked by me and my friend, looked at my friend then started telling racist jokes about how she was going to steal their "green cards". < racist much? My friend is tan because she is in swim team and does a lot of outdoor activities, she's Chinese. I'm just curious how do you guys define Asian. Because I'm not even sure of this myself ;_; Keep the racism out please ;)

At least the Asian basilers...
