Are they still gonna be worse than swords?

Yes they will be worse than swords still, although prices may rise do to white knights getting a skill to recover 80% hp and another skill that increases all 4th job skills by 2 levels
My Characters: DefiledSword - 58 Broa Fighter

The damage formulas will be the same. The only disadvantage will be in BWs being typically slower than swords. Most 1hBWs are Normal (6), while most 1h swords are Fast (5), and some swords are even Fast (4).
