Good car for ~$25k?

I'm getting a car for my bday & college departure present, but if I simply let my mom choose any car, I'd be getting a Toyota Camry, which doesn't look too hot :p What's a good car I can get in terms of safety, mileage, reliability, and size? I prefer to have either a small sedan type car that has 4 doors; my mom doesn't agree with any 2-door cars like the Prius and whatnot. Big cars are OK too, but I don't like driving so high. We have the Honda CR-V in mind but I honestly do not want that car that much. No Mazdas, due to biased hate against Mazda.

For 25k you can get a quality car, but how much in car insurance are you willing to pay. I've seen fairly new used mercedes and Beamers for around 22k-25k but you need to specify if you want a NEW or if you wouldn't mind a used car.

If you buy a slightly used car, you can buy a nice BMW or Mercedes. Basically, any luxury car brand of your choice. To me, it sounds like you would like a BMW 3 series.

[/quote] I'm not looking for a luxury car just yet, since I'm still in high school and freshmen aren't allowed to drive in the college i'm going to, so I just want something that's good for safety. One of our old cars broke down (the one I'm using, the other 2 are needed for parents and both are manual cars instead of automatic so idk how to drive them), so all we need is a good safety-featured car. Once I graduate from college I'll be getting a luxury, perhaps even the Lexus LFA series :D whomever said Nissan Altima That looks a lot better than Honda CR-V. Thanks for the suggestion.
