does the skateboard really make a huge difference

because i just started skateboarding and im having trouble with ollies. im using a $10 kryptonix board i got at academy. i just cant get the board up at all. my board is really heavy and cheap with 9 plys, (at least it wont break for a while) so that might be why. Is it a lot easier to do tricks on a decent board around $130? im getting kinda discouraged

It stops mattering once you get good. When you're just starting, it's probably easier to use a better board so you can learn the motions and stuff. At this point, your ollies are probably more due to lack of skill rather than your board's quality though. No matter how good the board is, if you don't know how to skate, magic isn't gonna happen :x

What they all said You just gotta get the basics down i started with a somewhat decent set only costed around $80 if you really get into it then you can get sets that pros use mine costed $220 heres my setup Almost resin 7 (Chris Haslam, cause hes awesome and crazy!) this deck is built so it wont snap, so far so good! used for almost 1 1/2 years Tensor Magnesium Mids (I like how they are 10x lighter than other trucks) Bones Reds (i gotta admit some of the best bearings you will get for its cheap price) and Spitfire S4 Cores (crazy fell of the wheels, i perfer theses over my ricta supercrystas) all got at my local skate shop

use a blank board instead costs only $20-25 watch some youtube videos on ollies crouch down, pop and jump at the same time, while simultaneously sliding your front foot towards the nose and stay on your toes! whoa, i spelled "simultaneously" correctly

Get a better board with light trucks.Then remember to jump up because you cant ollie without jumping.I suggest jumping when your tail hits the ground.

It does depend on the skateboard, i used to skate for about 3 years before i quit, those 10 boards are horrible, get a real skateboard at like vans or surf and skate, you could get one for like 120 dollars.

The thing about those 10 dollar skateboards is the grip tape, the thickness of the board, the plastic wheels, and the trucks. I mean sure the board wont break as easily but you won't get your tricks down. I ride custom. It's really up to you though. Skateboarding is sadly a lot of money. But it's fun. I spend atleast 60~80 bucks every month for new skate shoes. + New decks and all that crap. Don't use youtube if you have friends that skate and know how to do what you want to do. It's just easier learning in person.

If your practicing your ollies on the spot then it's you rather then your board. Getting a new board would help with learning to ride but you don't needa spend heaps, many people quit after a couple months.

I learned how to ollie on a nash board. It probably helped me develop a high ollie, so just stick with it. Besides, I wouldn't invest in something that could turn out to be something not for you.

They do matter a bit. When I first started out, I had the crappiest board. It was heavy as crap, had this sprayed on grit crap, and rubber wheels... lmao. My parents got it for me for Christmas. I quit within 1 week, i freaking hated it. Then about 3 years later, I got myself a decent $50 World Industries board and it made a huge difference. I was able to get an ollie down in a few hours, while on the other one I couldn't even pop it up. So yeah, it does matter, for me atleast.

I think some boards are lighter. My friend's board felt lighter than mines when I first used it, but you get use to it after a while.
