" Here’s the bottom line on hacking; I am never going to do a blog post on hacking. The details of how we detect, investigate, and block hacks are too sensitive and cannot be shared without posing a security risk." Oh yeah nice excuse on not sharing ANY update status on your so called investigations. In fact by how the GM worded this, technically we don't even know of they actually try to fix DC hacks. I liked the rest of the post but the bottom line, Nexon administrators, is that this problem affects a large number of the community and if you can't fix it in 1 year, then you need to communicate with us better. To us it seems like you honestly don't care about the abuse we get in game. It's ridiculous how hackers greatly benefit and honest maplers suffer.

You DO realize that MS isn't the only game Nexon administrates, right?
TronicX : You DO realize that MS isn't the only game Nexon administrates, right?
While this is true, it's Nexon's responsibility to help us with our problems like they should help their other games. If they're not going to help, they should at least lie to us and tell us some "fake" procedure they're doing. Doing so would give players a sense of security AND it would help them fight against the "NEXON IS DOING EVERYTHING WRONG" people.

seriously i'd rather be told a lie than be told we aren't allowed to know anything without a valid concrete reason

"The details of how we detect, investigate, and block hacks are too sensitive and cannot be shared without posing a security risk." Perhaps this CAN be true. If "they" know Nexon's method, "they" can find a loophole.

I know hackers, I'm friends with a great deal of them, if they know what nexon's doing they WILL use it to their own advantage.

I don't know.. People seem to over-exaggerate our hacker problems. The reason why I say this is because most frequent visitors to BM simply see the large volume of threads speaking specifically of hacks in general, whereas in other places -- it's far and between. As of lately (both in-game and in forums both official and not), the hacking situation has declined. Giving Nexon such a narrow scope doesn't help the situation either, only giving maplers more of a reason to 'hate' them. However, any improvement is better than none. It's just a matter of whether or not that's good enough for the players..
mechadax : yeah what about blizzard. they said the same thing? their game has hacks in it. why doesnt their customers complain to them? because they arent little selfish ignorant people like you thats why.
Have to agree, on Warcraft 3 custom games, hacks are everywhere... Autorefresher, Custom Kick, Latency Reducer, etc. The only difference is in that game is that the hacks people make for it actually make it balanced, there are exception though such as map hacking and such, though latency reducers and auto rf help alot, and most custom maps already have their own custom kick system made into it as a command though Blizzard still tries to root out these hacks, when it is the other hacks that cause issues. Also in D2 there are some sites that have developed their own program to make their own items in the game as long as it follows the rules such as not being able to have 2 bonuses on item that are in the same catergory such as a rare jewel can only have certain combinations. Either way tehre is also duping which is pretty obvious at how valuable runes are after ladder reset and how fast they begin to drop once they are circulated into a hacker's inventory.

I don't understand this talk of hackers getting their way around things. Around what? GMs are doing nothing. Dc hacks still here, etc
idealchirin : I don't know.. People seem to over-exaggerate our hacker problems.
More like underexaggerate. You have a FM spot I like? I guess you're getting disconnected via spouse or ghost. Whisper dc hacks are so last month. And that old-school vaccing is back AGAIN. Luckily I have MG on at all times now to prevent random deaths, but really, these are hacks I've seen (and left) 4 years ago. Why has it not been fixed yet? And that whole thing about the changing your password? What about that annoying aran BP hack? This is only the tip of the iceberg, buddy.

Do you still see hackers using monster vac, godmoding everywhere? no you don't. so they do do things, just they probably have to worry about "other" things first.

yeah some of the hacks in this game are really really bad. I don't see how it doesnt affect normal gameplay, when we have donald trumps and rockefellars in MS who used hacks to become what they are

"3. Maple Story, launched 2003 Genre/Platform: Asian MMORPG for kids, client install with 2D graphics Revenue sources: Microtransactions, prepaid cards, international licensing DFC estimated 2008 revenue: $150-$500 million" Seing as how they average almost 10m dollars for every week of gameplay, theres no excuse for them being unable to fix a d/c hack. It's just lousy service. They spend time developing new password and security systems that negatively affected more of the population than hackers did, and they continue to add all these new gach items and event items to increase income without addressing the real issue of security. That's why so many people play Blizzard games O.o Starcraft and Warcraft have a smaller margin of profit than maplestory but there are virtually no noticeable bugs/glitches/hacks

Don't complain when you don't have an idea of the scenario. Codes are always scrambled after every patch. They are doing something. But you're definitely underestimating hackers. A skilled coder could crack and reassemble their hacks in a matter of hours. DC Hacks and what not are one of the most publicized hacks. That probably means they're one of the easier codes to assemble. It's no wonder that its still there.
