The EMS section situation

-Summary at bottom- Hi, EMS section regulars. Pretty much ever since the EMS section was introduced there has been a problem with it: Maplers from other versions (most of the time GMS, or NAMS if you like) coming in either with good intentions but bad info, or to "lolol stupid messed up version haha." GMSers also enter to friendly compare the versions or to congratulate EMS with updates, more on that later. Some time ago a thread was made about those problems in the Site section, that section where people, mainly GMSers again, talk about Basil. Wasn't very productive and I think this thread would lead to better results if I put it here, where it matters. Anyway, to the "GMS interference" problem a few solutions were presented in the past and in that thread. We can always use more solutions, though. I'll list the ones we already have here and if you have another solution it'll be added to the list. If we find a pretty good solution I'll forward it to MrBasil. I contacted him about this a few months before I became a moderator and he replied back, so he knows I'm on it. The list 1. Complete removal of the EMS section (yeah, right. *cough* Sorry) 2. A separate Basil Market for EMS, like basilmarket.nl or something. 3. Blocking everybody who does not have a player listed in EMS out, so only EMSers can enter the section 4. A pop up "This is the EMS section. Are you sure you wish to submit your comment?" when submitting a post. 5. Taking the version sections off the front page, so you'll have to enter the section itself if you want to view a thread 6. Give the "blue thread banners" in the EMS section another colour, something that contrasts with the normal banner, so posters will notice something's different. (I strongly oppose to some of them, but I put them in anyway) Anyway, if you have a solution or agree with one of the solutions offered above by all means say so and present your solution. It's an old problem and it needs to be fixed. The best thing you can do now is report comments that contain GMS information (try not to reply to them, it derails the thread) and if a somewhat mean GMSer comes in to state his dislike/contempt for EMS in an unrelated thread ("lol, you barely got Arans while we already have DBs") that comment is also report-worthy because off topic or even flame bait. Try not to generate certain attitudes towards GMSers and don't complain "Can't you read? EMS section . It always pisses me off when GMSers do this" because that too will cause the thread to go off topic. GMSers may also come in with good intentions and (Oh my WORD!) a helpful comment, or they may have an EMS character that's not listed (like myself), so it's not fair to always react to them like you've got an allergy or something. ;) Long story short People from other versions sometimes come in with bad information (unintentionally) or for flame baiting (intentionally). It would be clearer if the main page showed this: GMS: - blablabla - blablabla - blablabla EMS: - blablabla - blablabla - blablabla Now the main page has both EMS and GMS in 1 section.

I just dont know how people cant see its EMS or GMS. I mean, on the main page @ topics, u can see very clear its an EMS threat or GMS. If people just open their eyes before they open a topic, there wouldnt be a problem at all...

And by the way, this site is for all of MapleStory, why would the EMS players have to do extra things while GMS players don't? I know it's not much, but still. 6. Seems executable, but even the people including ''EMS EMS EMS'' banners still get some (bad) GMS comments. Just my opinion. I don't see how this ever grew to this big of an issue at all, if only people would check where they post...

I like 3 4 and 6, though I've never confused the two forums and I've never posted irrelevant info or flamebait. I did occasionally tell people when they were giving info for wrong version, but I stopped doing that after a mod banned me for replying "btw this is EMS" to some comment about chaos scrolls.... ya anyways... 3, 4, and 6 look good.

They may have more experience with new content etc. And blocking everyone because of few (I still think its few people compared to the whole basil community) does not seem like right solution to me. 4. [/quote] Your comment on point 5 isn't entirely justified, unless you misunderstood it. ;) Taking off the EMS section only isn't the idea; taking ALL server specific sections off is. Saying the forums would then be GMS only wouldn't be fair, because the General section was never designed to be GMS only. It's just that EMSers seem to prefer to stick to their own section. On the one hand a tight community is created like that, but on the other hand the EMSers have isolated themselves to the point that the General section finds threads about EMS alien and Thread Starters from EMS are reported for misplacing their threads, while MSEA threads are sort of okay. The General section is for General MapleStory, not Global MapleStory. In that respect the EMSers should maybe "claim" their status on Basil Market a little more. :S 4 would work if for non EMSers only. XD For EMS regulars it would be a real nuisance if that pop up would... pop up every time you'd try to submit a thread. After all this is Basil Market and not Windows Vista.

[/quote] It is not us that isolate ourselves, since it is not us that move the threads to the ems section That being said i do agree with most of what you said. I remember seing a thread simmilar to this a while back, and my opinion on the matter havent changed alot since then. I think that it might help renaming the general section to "GMS", and then making a sub section for other versions and general talk. This wouldnt change how the forum works much, since all threads in the general section is posted by GMS'ers anyway, and (almost) only concern matters related to GMS. However, it would require GMS'ers to pay more attention when they post OUTSIDE their section, since everything outside their section would be for other versions of maple. Put simple: Move the GMS section to the current General sections position, and vice versa
