Why not believe in God just to be safe?

Don't get me wrong, I've been an athiest all my life Recently my friend asked me If you had the chance to go to heaven, why not just believe in God just to have that safety net? He says he knows heaven could be fake but why take the risk I couldn't really answer him so basil why not believe in God just to be safe?

Because to me it's illogical. It's like playing "what if" and the what if is impossible. I will not bend my beliefs to be on the 'safe side' lol, that's a.. foxhole atheist or something, perhaps I've got the term wrong.

This is called Pascal's Wager. However it doesn't really work. Believing in God, just to get into heaven is really no better than not believing in God at all. As Christians, we believe in God because we love him and what he's done for us. Not because we fear hell.

You could always believe and feel sorry deep down just to be safe? I think the possibility of hell is what God uses to manipulate some people to believe his existence

because god doesn't exist so there is none of this "safety" but you'll argue that he does, and our argument will become a sort of paradox
