One of my violin students (I tutor 8 students for a good pay ^^) is a cute korean 8 year old girl. I've been teaching her for half a year now. However, she's only improved as much as perhaps 2 to 3 weeks of work... She doesn't practice much, and she seriously needs help with so many different aspects. Her parents aren't too responsible either since they're not doing much to make her practice at all. I mean, sure, it's my job to simply teach her and whether or not she practices isn't my problem, but if even my morals aren't that weak. How can I get this girl to practice more throughout the week? New players should be practicing 5 times a week or more; if they don't practice even the best violin teachers can't help them since they can't even absorb information. I've never had a student practicing under 5 times a week before... what's a good "incentive" to get her to practice? Serious answers please, nothing 8 year olds can't handle.

Considering she is 8 years old, u could say like you can buy her a doll or give some candy or whatever

Stickers. Get the super cool star ones. Once she gets lets say 20 - 35 of them she gets a prize. Candy, Doll, A few dollars. Stuff like that.

Either negative or positive reinforcement. So if she sings good, give her a 1 dollar toy from a crappy garage sale, and if she does bad, just strangle her with the violin cords.

The easiest way to make a kid behave is to give rewards. I remember when I was a little kid I'd go insane for candy or a gold star (highest star of our little star chart) and try as hard as I could to be good =p Just try that!
