Jocks/Sports buffs are bigger nerds than actual "nerds"

Seriously, I'm convinced it is so. Let me give you an example. Today after my MicroBio lab class I decided to grab some lunch. After getting my lunch I sat down in one of the rooms that had a TV propped up on the wall. Of course since this is college it is always on Sports Center 99.998% of the time (I've only seen the channel changed once since I've been at this school for 1+ years). Well it just so happens that as I am enjoying my meal these two guys beside me where having a heated conversation about the Redskins game last night. Well I decided that I'd do some eavesdropping and this is how the conversation went. "X had a great game last night, I never expected him to do so well in his first/second/third... blah blah blah... I agree he did have a game of excellence... blah blah blah... *insert random dates and names here* THE COWBOYS SUCK *insert more random football banter*" Well as you can see I completely lost interest within the first 5 seconds of the conversation. It was then that I thought, from an objective standpoint that this is no better than some preteens huddled in the corner of Books - A - Million talking about their trading cards or a group of kids talking about their new pokemon/yugioh/whatever else they play nowadays strategies. Even moreso sports buffs go to great lengths when "representing" their teams. The do such things as face/full body painting and gathering in large crowds (some in ridiculous outfits) to go to a cramped arena to see dudes that spend 3-7 hours each day at the gym (and make 5-10x more money than them)/practicing to throw and carry an odd shaped ball from one side of the field to the next... IMO society is VERY backwards and convoluted... /end rant.

I disagree. The people that tend to talk like this are actually capable of talking about other subjects and usually do not discuss sports unless there is something sports related happening (SportCenter). The "typical nerd" can only talk about two things: Video Games & The Military, at least from my experiences.

You have to realise that the definition of Nerd varies from person to person. I know people that are actually cool, (girl friends, dresses nice) BUT he still studies his arse off when it comes to exams. or stuff.

A. Yeah I'm def gonna text my friends and wait 15 mins for them to get there when I have class in half an hour. B. Yeah that would be their knee jerk response to anyone who disagrees with their POV. C. Nerds aren't necessarily limited to video games, that's why sports nuts should b listed as one of it's subgroups since they practically do everything "actual" nerds do but in a different way.

There's nothing wrong with ENJOYING football. I watch football too as well as boxing, UFC, and rarely soccer. The only difference is sports BUFFS/NUTS are pulling stats and rosters and shiz from over 20 years ago from off the top of their head. It's just friggin wierd.
