Snipe or Pierce?

| I was wondering what you Marks(wo)men did and why. I really would like to mainly level from bossing in 4th job, so I'm tempted to do Snipe first, but I'm concerned that finding a bossing group will be excessively hard in Bera, where there are a lot of high level archers already. This would be a problem since I'd have a high level of Snipe but wouldn't be able to boss, so I feel like my training outside of bossing will be really slow. Also, at what level would I become desirable on Zak runs? Input? |

|
sk8aninja : Kevvl Yeah you can still go but I think Zak's def lowers your damage drastically if your not 140+. Then again you are an MM. SE is always needed.
If by "drastically" you mean "about 10%", then yeah. |

| Personally, I went with SE first, MM boost, and then Piercing Arrow. Here are my reasons: -I barely boss at all -I cannot participate in most of the bosses available; this includes Zak, HT, Pianus, Targa and so on. The only boss runs my comp can even handle without dcing are Pap, Cwkpq (as long as I keep minimising Maple which is annoying as crap), and Scar. I don't dc if I minimise MS often but of course, I can't just minimise in the middle of a run and depend on a bishop to save me. >_> -I train 90% of the time than I boss and I want to show others the REAL power of PA; it's such an underestimated skill that's my favourite. Right now, I'm finding my build pretty useful while hunting at ToT for PoTs (revamping every single equip I have until I can train again). FYI, I love my 1-2 hitting at skeles even though my equips are complete rubbish thanks. -I'm glad that I didn't go Sniping first because the skillbooks for Sniping 30 ONLY drops from HT; I'm not sure how much of them are being sold by the HT killing hackers and their prices now. Before those hackers though, they're 200+ mil each; you would never see them around fm either. I don't even know how to merch that much under a week. =/ |

| My computer does fine at bosses. I've been to zak, pap, cwkpq, ergoth, etc. No more than minimal lag. And @kevvl, is there a reason you went snipe first besides training? |

| eh I can tell you why, cuz at the time snipe was cheaper than SE and it was during the 4th year aniversary event when we had enough 2x to make it easy to max it |

| Oh I see. Well Snipe 20/30 is not that expensive anymore. Maybe I should just buy it now? The HT hacking won't always be around to lower prices... |

| Words of advice on Snipe and Pierce from a 129 Beran Marksman: There probably aren't many Pierce 20s around... they're a 1 in a 1,000,000 drop from Skeles* And I bought all 5 of Bera FreeMarket's Pierce 20s about a month ago back when I was trying to max it. Pierce20 cannot be sold in MTS. I know many bishop friends that have told me that they trained at Skeles for 50+ levels and have NEVER seen a Skele drop a Pierce20 book. So good luck getting it. And if you get one, good luck getting it to work on the first try. Anyway, Pierce is probably a better option imo. Bossing (Zakum, Horntail, Papulautus, Pianus, etc) is heavily dependent on if you can get a big group of people together to simultaneously cooperate and defeat one monster. If other party members outdamage you during the boss fight, the exp you receive will be decreased. If any party member disconnects during the boss fight (especially bishops/dks), it will decrease your chances of defeating the boss. Solo Bossing (Anego, Bigfoot, RGTS, etc) is going to also be risky because if you die even once at those monsters (elder wraiths & the mobs near RGTS can 2hko all MM and can 1hko most MM; one slip up at Anego will kill all MM) you will reduce your EXP significantly (without safety charms, wheels of destiny, etc) and the % that you gain back from killing the boss will mean that much less.** Basically, there's a lot of risks and a lot of inconsistency that you have to deal with if you choose to max Snipe for bossing first instead of maxing Pierce for grinding first. You will, at the very least, have some guaranteed EXP gain if you train with Pierce. Now, I can't go preaching the praises of Pierce because, quite frankly, I'm 129 with 18 Pierce and I'm not really seeing the big deal over Pierce. I still have to train at Jr. Newties because training at Skeles and ToT is just too darn difficult with Pierce. Now, maybe I just don't know how to use Pierce correctly, maybe I don't have it maxed enough yet to see its true strength, maybe I need to actually have 1 point in Dragon Breath to use it effectively alongside Pierce. Idk. You have to charge the Pierce completely for it to be of any use (this takes at least 1 second each time you charge it to shoot it, and you CANNOT POT during this second!) So far, Soul Arrow+ Booster+Strafe+Frostprey+Blizzard+Sharp Eyes+the occasional Pierce is what gets me through training for now. ____________________________ * = Source from this thread. | I went with snipe first because at the time I couldn't find people to train with so I went snipe to solo pap at a lower level. However, if I were to do it again, I would go with pierce first because it is easier to level now with so many 2x event from Nexon. Also, finding pierce 30 is cheaper and much more easier than snipe 30. With max pierce you can train much faster and level more faster for more SP into snipe. If you do go with snipe as first choice, then you can use dragon breath + iron arrow + AE to mob and to finish off the mobbed monsters. |

I don't know. Killing one strong monster in an hour is more appealing to me t |

| Well, I can't argue with ya if you find killing one strong monster is more appealing (for whatever reason). But to me, when I'm killing those thousands of weaker monsters, I frequently gain exp (albeit small exp). But it's exp that I have and can keep since the risk of dieing is small. At bosses... risk of death is usually higher and you never gain exp until the very end, and that's if you haven't died at all while fighting them. Just my own opinion on why I find grinding a better option, or more appealing as you say, than bossing to level. Totally fine to agree to disagree lol. And lucky find in FM... you should buy it quick. |
