Well I stumbled on a few problems. Find a number k such that the solution to 5x - k = 0 is an interger Give an example of a number which is not real A student used a distribution property to simplify 2(x-3)(4x-5) and gets (2x-6)(8x-10) Whats wrong with this? If anyone can help me thank you

If the first problem means just one solution, there's plenty. 5x-k=0, make x an integer solution- you can make k=5 and x will equal one, getting you an integer solution. second problem- i is not a real number, it's also the sqroot of -1. 3rd problem, it's wrong because you only distribute the 2 to one of the factors, not both.

First problem just solve for x in terms of k, so it would be 5x = k -> x = k/5. Therefore, k has to be any number divisible by 5 to make the solution (x) be a whole number. Second is the imaginary number, i, which is the square root of -1 Third, you cannot distribute the two because there are only factors in that expression, so you can only multiply the 2 once.

What the first poster said Find a number k such that the solution to 5x - k = 0 is an interger I don't fully understand the question Give an example of a number which is not real Like what the first poster said, Any number that is (x)i, ect. (x being any number both pos and neg. A student used a distribution property to simplify 2(x-3)(4x-5) and gets (2x-6)(8x-10) Whats wrong with this? 2(x-3)(4x-5) simplified is (2x-6)(4x-5) for the simplified answer to be (2x-6)(8x-10) the non simplified equation would have to be 2[(x-3)(4x-5)] Hope this helps
