What do YOU think about age gaps?

For example: A seventeen year-old young man dating a thirteen year-old chick. To be honest, I wouldn't have a problem with it. If you like each other to that extent where age isn't relevant, then go for it. But think about it, too, if you will--back in the day this kind of dating was totally fine. My aunt & uncle are about seven to eight years apart, and they're still together. Perfectly fine. So, Basilers, why do you think this is frowned upon of this day and age? Also, don't forget to answer to thread title. ;D

Dating is fine I guess. Its when sex comes up, that things get weird. And its also because we change radically during our teenage years, physically, mentally, emotionally, even spiritually. Four years could mean a lot during this time of change, while it might not mean as much when we're more stagnant, like in our 30s or 40s.

Its fine but not in that age bracket. A 13 year old girl is much less physically and mentally mature than a 17 year old guy. If you look at it between say a 30 year old girl and a a 34 year old guy then the maturity margin is minimal. Its just at that age where the problem is.

As long as those two go to the same high school (freshmen and junior/senior), then whatever. But if they're in separate schools (middle/high/college), then there's a problem. (Junior/senior high school student freshmen/sophomore student is okay though.) I'm 19, and I'm okay with 17-23 (for dating).

13 and 17 is better than 10 and 15 because the 10 year old is not usually mature enough in the mind to make good decisions. If the 13 year old screws up, that's their problem. Other than that, I have no problem, as long the older of the two isn't being horrible to them because they are stronger.

It depends if theyre 21+ if its 3 years or maybe 2 around 11 snd 13 no because teen years 17 and 13 no because a almost adult and teen hitting puberty 15 and 17 ok 14 and 17 no its not age but 21 and 18 not so well until the other person its 21 or 20 bc of alcohol but 21 and 30 w/e floats ur boat but it might b bc u started drinking so when ur like 26 date anyone within 10 years no1 ur signifcantly older when so I think when ur 50ish you can date most not those college grls unless ur hue heffnet bc then ur just lookin 2 feel younger and watching kids who r just mot fully mature thers adult mature and for ur age. this is fron a 13 male teenager.

My wife and I are 7 years apart in age. No big deal now, but when I was 20, she was 13... that's just creepy if you ask me. Maturity is the big difference, kids mature tons between 12 and 18. What an 17 year old might be ready for and a 13 year old thinks she's ready for might be the same, but the maturity difference are huge. Personally, I don't think that kids aren't really ready to understand and be in relationships till 15 or so, and even then exclusive 1 on 1 relationships are pointless at that stage and are just heartbreak waiting to happen. @DirtyKickz Run on sentence much? Also, what does alcohol have to do with relationships?

I can totally see where all of you are coming from. These are all reasonable answers, so with that being said, I suppose it's safe to say I've been together with a thirteen year-old not once, but TWICE(Different chicks) when I was seventeen. To be frank, we had NO problems whatsoever. She led her life, I led mine, & that's just the way it was.

At 17 you're already way past puberty, and at 13 you're just starting it. And as a 17 year old you're nearly an adult, 13 year olds are still kids. In my opinion, during teenage years, anything above 2 years is too much, call me old fashioned or whatever.

Yes, someone as young as thirteen or fourteen can't expect much out of a relationship at that age, to be honest, like you said. I personally don't really place labels such as this on myself any longer. It's been over a year now since I've been single, & I love it. To be able to flirt with all kinds of women and experiment is just a fun thing, you know? I'm not worried about relatiohsips right now, considering I have school to worry about and current problems in my life.

DanishDude1 I agree, during teenage years, even 2 years can be a huge difference in maturity level, and whether it is intentional or not, the older of the couple IS leading the relationship and can easily coerce the younger.
